I highly recommend you take a read through my answers to their survey to get a sense of my values and priorities around housing. You’ll also notice one candidate’s name is completely absent from the list of respondents.

It’s not always easy to champion ideas within groups opposed to your point of view, but I believe this is critical work to start helping to elevate the conversation beyond for/against and into finding ways to move forward together.

I even answered the survey from “Calgarians for Thoughtful Growth,” a local advocacy group focused on repealing citywide rezoning.

Not only do I champion inner city growth like transit-oriented development, but I’m willing to have those important discussions with those who are of opposing points of view at the doors to help find common ground and build a way forward from the current housing situation we’re in.

It looks like my video about Terry telling people he’s not part of a political party seems to have struck a nerve.

Glad he could provide this clarification on his stance on parties.

The downtown cycle track was supposed to connect to the Bow River Pathway. Our FOI request shows that plans had even been developed back in 2020, but then the project was shelved after Terry Wong became Ward 7’s councillor.

Scooter parking is interesting too as a way to help with clutter on the sidewalks.

Does anyone in #yycbike know of anywhere in Calgary where bike racks have been installed in 5m no-parking-zone around crosswalks/intersections to provide better intersection daylighting for pedestrians and bike lockup at the same time (and way cheaper than curb bump outs)?

It’s not necessarily about revoking (we do need protections for our tree canopy), but making sure the bylaw is right-sized to enable the desired outcomes. For example, are there creative solutions like pool noodle protections that can meet the needs of both tree protection and neighbourhood play?

Cyclists can travel in either direction on roads that don’t have cycling infrastructure. The pedestrian experience is better on roads rather than thoroughfares - pedestrians are prioritized and designed for differently when you’re trying to run as much traffic through as possible like with one-ways.

👍 But we have to be careful to not base these kinds of decisions on traffic volume alone. It’s a simple stat, but focuses the conversation around cars in/out/thru. More complex/complete data (ex: dwell time, multiple stops, other modes) paints a more complete picture and allows for better decisions.

I’m a big fan of the idea to go to two way traffic. It’s better for everyone who isn’t using downtown as a thoroughfare: pedestrians, cyclists, businesses, and even drivers who aren’t just trying to just get in/out as quickly as possible. It also gives us an opportunity to rethink bus lanes. 👍
