Calgary already has decades of developable land inside its boundaries.
So why is Council restarting annexation talks for 415 acres in Foothills County, just to pave one short road?
Every time we grow, it costs more and pulls focus from the neighbourhoods we already have.

I’m down for the change to the “actually always accessible for all ages and abilities” of it gets us one more A’s worth of funding (actually…). 😆

Does anyone in #yycbike know of anywhere in Calgary where bike racks have been installed in 5m no-parking-zone around crosswalks/intersections to provide better intersection daylighting for pedestrians and bike lockup at the same time (and way cheaper than curb bump outs)?

For example, are there creative solutions like pool noodle protections that can meet the needs of both tree protection and neighbourhood play?

Cyclists can travel in either direction on roads that don’t have cycling infrastructure. The pedestrian experience is better on roads rather than thoroughfares - pedestrians are prioritized and designed for differently when you’re trying to run as much traffic through as possible like with one-ways.

More complex/complete data (ex: dwell time, multiple stops, other modes) paints a more complete picture and allows for better decisions.

It’s better for everyone who isn’t using downtown as a thoroughfare: pedestrians, cyclists, businesses, and even drivers who aren’t just trying to just get in/out as quickly as possible. It also gives us an opportunity to rethink bus lanes. 👍

Though these plans are all from various City documents, funding to take these from paper plans to reality has not been allocated and no proper deadline has been set.
Plans for protected cycling routes are spread across many different City plans and there's no single resource to see them put together. So at Myke for Ward 7 HQ we've gone through and drawn them all out onto a single map to give a sense of what the Ward 7 network will look like when it's complete:
