Pandora’s box I opened.

I just wanted a glimpse

I now have nothing in its absence.

The world tree I sought

To rest my head against its branch

I cannot sleep, when my neck is my cot

Maybe I’ll find the things that I lost. Or maybe someday someone else can pay the cost.

How to download your Kindle books while Amazon still allows it After Feb. 26, Amazon is doing away with its Kindle "download and transfer via USB" option.

I'm gonna remind people that I feel pretty strongly that if you bought one of my ebooks legitimately, then you own the book and however you secure that ownership is fine by me

Nazis Burned Trans Books To Usher In Fascism: Now Trump Does The Same Transgender people have often been a canary in the coalmines of Democracy.

1. Nearly a century ago, Nazis burned trans books to usher in fascism.

Now, Trump is doing the same, digitally burning all records of transgender people and striking the community from records.

This must be seen for what it is: a move towards atrocity.

Scoreboard showing the marriage equality constitutional amendment passing the Senate of Virginia 24-15 on January 21, 2025.

Scoreboard showing the marriage equality constitutional amendment passing the Senate of Virginia 24-15 on January 21, 2025.

On the Senate floor today, we passed three constitutional amendments: two on partyline votes for voting rights and reproductive rights and one for marriage equality on a 24-15 vote with three Republicans joining all 21 Democrats in voting β€œYea” and one Republican not voting.

In the 20 years since the Virginia General Assembly began the process to ban all forms of legal recognition for same-sex couples, public opinion has changed dramatically on this issue.

The 2005 General Assembly acted in the wake of the 2004 presidential campaign in which George W. Bush made his opposition to marriage equality the cornerstone of his social issues platform while attacking the Democrats for undermining the β€œsanctity of marriage” (the Democratic nominee at the time wouldn’t even say he was for marriage equality back then).

In 2006, the Virginia constitutional amendment went to the voters and passed 57%-43%.

I had spent the prior four years in college just beginning to come out to a handful of friends and learning what it meant to navigate through a country that largely didn’t approve of LGBTQIA+ people. It was so heartbreaking in 2006 to cast my β€œno” vote as a 22-year-old only to watch my lifelong home community vote against the idea that you should be able to marry the consenting adult of your choosing.

Today, things are different. The Republicans gave up fighting this in the Senate. They offered no amendments, saving those for the two other resolutions. Their members who had the four closest elections in 2023 were the ones who either voted yes or didn’t vote at all.

I write this as a reminder that LGBTQIA+ Virginians are resilient. The executive orders from the White House yesterday targeting us are truly harmful β€” yet we’ve overcome so much before. We need to be our own best advocates, and remember to support, check in with and stay alive for each other.

It will hurt β€” but it’s up to us to survive, organize, lead by example and be the change we seek in the world.

Warmly,
Danica

Today, the Senate of #Virginia passed constitutional amendments for voting rights, reproductive rights and marriage equality.

The first two passed on partyline votes; the latter, on a bipartisan 24-15 vote.

LGBTQIA+ folks: We need to be our own best advocates. We need to help each survive. #valeg

Now, I don’t care anymore. My attitude is, if you’re not in my immediate chosen family, you’re on your own. Unless I know you in person, my wife’s own survival, my chosen family’s survival, my own survival, come first.

I used to be so empathetic, even though I lived in a red Midwest area. Even though I had trash thrown at me on the school bus, and got called faggot, dyke, and tranny DAILY. I cared, I would have jumped in front of a gun for anyone of those people. I gave a few of them my last bucks for lunch or gas

I tried making a joke about the current state of politics, no one laughed. 8, 5, hell even a year ago it would have been funny. Today, and for the next 4 years, it isn’t. It’s just sad.

Weird that we have to say this, but the government doesn’t get to decide what gender a person is.

"But Democrats had to pass the TikTok ban because Republicans made them by attaching it to other legislation"

Not in the House, but also...

The same people saying this are going to excuse when Dems vote for anti-trans bills in the budget over the next 4 years, like they already did with the NDAA.
