Gains in productivity should serve the working class. We need a reduction in the workweek to 32 hours, at full-time pay.

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

So too does the complicity of other countries who have refused to uphold international law.
it is no exaggeration to say that Hersey’s Hiroshima is one of the most affecting, devastating pieces of reporting in the last century. I don’t see how you can read it and not come away with the soul-deep belief that every nuke should be fully dismantled and the blueprints obliterated.

I've read at least a half-dozen books on the murder of Elizabeth Short. This is by far the most trustworthy. It offers no grand theory. Instead, it does important work at busting myths & exposing the brutal misogyny that has always dominated the story.

"It is vital to recognise that a genocide is under way even without a ruling in the case before the international court of justice, [Yuli Novak, the director of B’Tselem] said. 'Genocide is not just a legal crime. It’s a social and political phenomenon.'"

Billionaire wealth isn’t built on genius — it rests on public investment and ends with the power to shape law, labor, and markets.

Constantly struck by how good academia is at teaching people to be critical of texts, but how poor at engaging with the beauty of the text. This suspicious mode of thinking, discussing art seems often to be a way of avoiding having that unsettling, profound encounter with the weird beauty of art.
