06.11.2025 00:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I do think they have genuine concerns which the likes of Farage spin to be about immigration. The problem is that unless the real problems are dealt with quickly the far right will make it about the imaginary problem of immigration. Labour are acting like they have a few decades to fix things.
05.11.2025 16:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We canβt stop liars in politics or the media though. And we canβt make people rational or informed if they choose not to be.
What we can do as a country is address their real concerns, cost of living, housing, jobs. Take on the water and energy companies. Tax the rich.
Rightly or wrongly people are concerned about immigration.
We have a story on the BBC about criminal immigrant gangs running minimarts - this is actually a story about the failure to properly legislate business activities in the UK.
Tax the rich. Fix the laws.
We should have the right to hold whatever beliefs we want but there should be no legal requirement for those beliefs not to be ridiculed. Evidence should be the metric for assessing beliefs. Respect for any belief should not be automatic.
05.11.2025 11:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs time we closed the loophole of tax havens.
Imagine an ordinary PAYE tax paying worker telling the taxman that they wouldnβt be paying taxes because they were getting their wages paid into a foreign bank.
It does feel like Labour are repackaging Reform βpoliciesβ in an attempt to stop votes going to Reform.
What they need to do is tackle inequality, profiteering, and corruption by taxing the wealthy and strengthening the law as well as the bodies that enforce it.
Seems US surgeons generals have more balls than US military generals, who are all turning out to be cowards in their countryβs hour of need..

Non-facts, or βequally valid narrativesβ, donβt cause the same rabbit hole feedback loop phenomenon that we see on platforms where misplaced rage generates advertising revenue.

www.bbc.com/news/live/c9...
This attack is a really strong justification for Iran to claim they need nuclear weapons for self defence. Israel would not have attacked a nuclear power in this manner.

Prospect is sewage dumping, health hazards, lack of investment, higher domestic/business costs, tax dodges, asset-stripping.
Public ownership is the only way out.
Yes, I can explain that easily, we had a Conservative government. Conservative ineptitude always hurts the economy.
20.05.2025 23:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Reading that Starmer is in Albania trying - and failing apparently - to set up some grubby immigrant placement deal. If so, this is right out of the Tory playbook that he continually criticized. Stop chasing Reform voters who will never vote Labour, and listen to the voters who elected you instead.
15.05.2025 18:36 β π 16 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs impossible to be pro-British and anti-European.
We need full access to the single market again. The economy would fly, weβd be far more secure, but in these times sanity is unfashionable so more likely next government will be led by Farage.
The only reason many voters think immigrants are their enemy is that they have been lied to.
Immigrants did not cause low pay or the housing crisis. Politicians caused those with poor policies and planning.
Blaming immigrants doesnβt fix our problems, it grows Reform.

Labour are convinced that correcting Reform or being honest about our need to be in the EU, will cost votes. But the voters Labour are losing are going to Lib Demβs and Greens because of Labourβs futile pandering to Reform voters.
11.05.2025 18:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The way to beat Reform is to:
be BETTER than them,
more honest than them,
have real solutions they donβt have.
Not to try and BE them!
Their voters (a national minority) donβt want Reform lite from a party they hate.
But the rest of us want true thriving policy from grownups with integrity.
Exactly. Cooperβs nonsense about cutting migration legitimises what Reform are selling and will not win votes for Labour.
Labour needs to address inequality, introduce robust legislation to facilitate renationalisation of our utilities with cripplingly large fines, and rejoin the single market.
The Government has said there is no money available for Public Sector pay rises and it must come out of existing budgets.
But there is loads of money, the Banks all gave their CEO's 40% pay rises last week.
Tax the rich, end Brexit or do both.
That's what people want.
Reeves to make case for trade deal in first meeting with US treasury secretary.
Must not sacrifice the NHS; food/environment standards, worker rights.
Any deal must be approved by parliament in a free vote.
Trade deal with the EU preferable to US. Can't trust Trump. Our future lies with Europe.
Outside of the US many of us are left with no choice to find non US based alternatives for digital services etc, for security reasons, but where we can we will support US businesses, institutions and non profits under attack by the White House.
