It's nice cause' instead of making a completely new technically impressive project I just shoddily copied the surface nets meshing algorithm from C# to js and then threw in a planet explorer and called it good
I did finally learn the basics of web development thanks to a computer graphics course of all things. deratuel.com now exists I guess. You can play demo version of 0xDEC's far future ability to go to different planets at deratuel.com/0xde3

Due to downsampling there is clear divides in materials chosen at farther distances, though I think that would be fixes when its a more "mature" implementation

It's turning out to be quite a challenge, since surfacenets is a "dual" algorithm. While I've tried generating skirts on each chunk, that is kind of a "hack" and doesn't look quite right when I've tried it out.

Hit a feature complete state for the first prototype, but after testing it out my laptop it desperately needs some memory management.
02.11.2025 08:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sped up terrain gen quite a bit, though itβs still a bit slower than Iβd like. Each chunk is 16x512x16, and itβs using surface nets in godot. Probably gonna get to work on the LOD system out beyond it next.

Another little progress update. Iβd say Iβm getting close to feature complete for my first devlog on it, though Iβm pretty busy with school at the moment.
I ended up using surface nets, and itβs been quite the fun challenge to add terrain editing and other things.

Working on a game. I guess Iβll try posting about it in various places to slowly get visibility.
Right now itβs just some height map generation with Marching Cubes. I plan to move over to Dual Contouring next.
