I don’t think they understand that constantly leaving strategy decisions up to the driver sends them the message that they’re not totally convinced of them. You have all the information, you make the decisions.

Instead they willingly gave up the undercut opportunity, thinking the tyre advantage would get them past, even though Norris already had a tyre advantage at the end of the first stint and they were already seeing how hard passing Verstappen with a tyre advantage was

It’s really annoying to me that McLaren always default to risk aversion when it comes to calls like this. They could’ve got stuck behind Alonso and wasted the undercut opportunity, but they also could’ve gone straight past and had a shot at taking the place.

Their race management really only makes sense if you think of it as they’re massively ahead in the constructors and they have the fastest car so they’re just not really arsed about losing a handful of points here and there

McLaren constantly think it’s ok for them to give up an undercut and they can make up for it on track with fresher tyres and it’s like they forget they don’t have a massive car advantage anymore

I think it’s reasonable for Piastri to be upset about it, from his perspective his teammate just shoved him into the barrier. Easy to forget this stuff happens for them through a very limited perspective in a split second
