Nah. The real debate in America is between people who know Trump is evil and say so, and the people (like Laura!) who know Trump is corrupt and evil and lie about it for personal profit.

It is so damning of US news media that so many outlets refuse to just straight up say that Senator Tim Sheehy assaulted an activist.
He did not "help" Capitol police. They did not need his help. He wanted to assault the guy and did. He should resign.

The fiasco of a war in Iran and the deep corruption and venality of the Department of Homeland Security were in the spotlight this week as Trump’s allies were forced to answer tough questions from the press and from lawmakers. It went quite poorly. My write-up in the replies.

Kristi Noem's two favorite ways to not answer questions she doesn't like:
1. When not under oath, she will just lie; and
2. When under oath, she ignores the question. And also lies.

Kristi Noem testified under oath yesterday that detainees receive medical attention within 12 hours. Yet another shameless lie.

Oh for the halcyon days when that scene was a joke, as opposed to the reality we appear to be stuck in.
I suppose let us hope President Lisa comes sooner, rather than later.

I am now caught up on Paradise eps 3 and 4, and I cannot understand how a show that was meticulous about plotting and detail in season 1 keeps opening up plot loopholes and WTF questions in season 2.

/4 Anyway, a long-time theme of Trumpism, and an increasingly common theme of the Republican Party, is that violence is justified against protesters because protesters are evil. It’s a deeply foul, thuggish, un-American sentiment.

It’s not the Kurds we have to worry about. They don’t want any of that. It the Turks fanning Azeri resentment. And come on… a land corridor between Ankara and the Turkic states of Central Asia? Do we really think Erdoğan is not thinking about that?

1 Me: He froze like a deer in the headlights.
2 Deer: Okay tough guy, what would you do?
Me: It’s just an expression.
3 Deer: No, no, no. You’re standing there, suddenly all you see is a blinding light. What’s your plan? I want to hear it.
4 Me, frowning: I would freeze.
Deer: I fucking thought so.
This is one of my favorite comics we've made.

In short, I think it is very likely 40/52 is the *best* this ever polls, unless the administration can produce a Regime Change Easter Miracle and somehow have a functioning, pliant and pro-USA interim government in place by, like, June.
And that seems...unlikely to happen.

Like, right now, Uncle Sam just socked Evil McBadGuy in the face and the median voter is thinking, "This seems precipitous, I am seriously concerned this is going to go badly" rather than cheering like it is an action movie.
Before anything has actually *started* going badly!

Not sure in what sense @sodrock.bsky.social thought it was insane, but to me it is striking that it is as low as 40% for a strike against a long-term enemy and a brutal regime, which at least appears to be 'going well' if you are paying only limited attention.
I'd expect higher, to be honest.

Removing the capacity for Iran to threaten ships in the strait entirely is going to be really hard without a ground operation, as we saw with the much smaller, less well-resourced Houthis.
The bank shot is obviously 'someone else's ground operation.'

So just to be clear: at the same time that we are running a roughly $1.8trillion deficit, the government is going to have to pay back something like $200bn in tariffs.
And this was the moment that they figured it was a great time to burn a billion dollars *a day* starting an optional war. 🤦♂️

I suspect Kurdish independence would suddenly look like an excellent deal, at least in Tehran. Turkey would be less enthused.
