I think the trajectory of utility for a lot of people who need to Code Some Stuff ends up at 'limited use tool' or 'investigatory mechanism' and not 'let's fire this up at 9am every day because it's so deeply handy'.

I'm sure experiences differ.

Anyway, I gave it a go, now we're here.

The moment you have that thought, you are rationalizing with your future time, which is unmeasured.

Then they've got ya.

And then eventually the great disappointment starts, which is a combination of (a) confidently pursuing dead ends (b) legacy nonsense (c) contradictions.

I think you get a sugar high when something complicated that crosses several hundred lines of code produces correct outputs from correct inputs. And it isn't ideal but it works.

Then you think 'even if I have to understand what the hell is happening here, it'll save me time ON AGGREGATE'.

I had a red hot go, because I don’t like to be critical without too much experience, but the interest fades.

After thinking about it, I think I’ve identified the trajectory of disappointment…

Well that is quite congruent with my experience. A question that starts with “is it possible to…” tends to devolve from “sure it is!” to “ahh no”
