perfectly a strangeness

Three or four of these despicable group chats have become public, but here's the thing: It's absolutely certain that there are HUNDREDS of group chats just like them that we'll never learn about. There's an entire generation of groyper Republicans, and in a few years they'll be running the party.

I went to a screening of all five 2026 Oscar nominated short documentaries and what can I say. There is a sweet one about donkeys and the rest will rip your heart out.

Starter pack full of obvious bots and it's description is inaccurate of me/my account/my work, in cases like that it is likely to drive more bots and unwanted followers to me. Not to mention making the pack's creator, who has never interacted w/ me here, intentions and authenticity seem suspect.

This is very funny

Hi Mr. Mayor :) so, sure, but they didn’t ask to add me so labor becomes mine+opens me to hostility from a stranger via the interaction. Some of us manage more of that than others already. It’s a nicer interpersonal solution if we knew for sure everyone was a good actor, but not a fair one. (IKYK)

I agree completely

Soft blocks don’t work for lists or follows here, one of the regular gripes about the design, so I imagine they don’t work for starter packs either sadly

As always consent (or lack there of) is one of the biggest inbuilt issues with tech infrastructure, even the well-intentioned

04.03.2026 22:23 β€” πŸ‘ 56    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

We’ve been over how lists get abused nefariously and that the solution is blocking which makes sense because it’s about bad actors but I think sometimes folks mean well with starter packs and are completely naive as to why someone wouldn’t want to be included.

04.03.2026 22:21 β€” πŸ‘ 29    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think it sucks that as far as I know the only way to get off a starter pack you don’t want to be on here is to block its creator but here we are. If anyone knows a more graceful way to exit a starter pack please lmk.

That paper has a very special place in my heart too. I tell the origin story whenever I can which means some people have heard it many times! And thanks for saying this, so glad to have been part of your journey.

never, ever, ever, ever accept "how will you pay for it?" as an argument against social programs.

I was telling an acquaintance that I've been trying to lift more weight doing glutes at the gym b/c I want a bigger butt (I mean I'm just trying to outlive the assholes, but that too) and she laughed and said "I never heard of someone wanting a bigger butt." Like wow we live in different universes.

A personal note for the junior scholars reading this: we were three untenured women scholars trained in different areas when we started the research for this book around 2016. People advised us not to. Well...they were super wrong, and it hardly took any time at all to prove it.

The Twitter postmortems are many, I am part of some. Back then we warned in the conclusion - yes, ordinary people and activists can and always do carve out spaces to be heard - we chose to document that. But ownership, infrastructure, regulation, moderation all matter. A lot. Openings can close.

The most surreal part of the pub day was our launch event at The Strand in NYC just 4 days before the COVID-19 state of emergency was called. Folks had started to worry about attending but no one had any idea what we were about to face, we shook hands, signed books, breathed all over each other.

It’s the 6th anniversary of the publication of #HashtagActivism. Much has changed about social media since @moyazb.bsky.social @foucaultwelles.bsky.social and I started researching the site formerly known as Twitter over a decade ago. Forever grateful we were on the ride together.

There's been a lot of debate within the Democratic establishment about what rhetoric to use via ICE.

Well, an incumbent doesn't lose by 48 percentage points very oftenβ€”and her vote on collaborating with ICE was the defining issue here.
