I never thought about how dangerous files with dollar signs can be until today.

If a filename is directly inserted into a command, e.g. using the find -exec directive, the dollar signs in the filename might be replaced with environment variables or might not appear at all if no match is found.

I wasn't aware how bad aiofiles is. I ran two tests for a little tool I develop rn, it was 2 to 5 times slower than vanilla implementation. I changed now to aiofile (without s) and my little test was 35% faster than the vanilla implementation. Keep in mind to benchmark your async functions #python

The latter is especially bad because many Apple users just expect everything to work (from my experience). And Apple has a reputation for not following web standards, I had it once too often that I had everything working when a colleague that uses Safari tells me the website is broken for them.

What's common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

Apple leverages its market power to force developers to buy their products if they don't like angry users. You cannot create an application for MacOS nor test a website for Safari without owning an expensive Mac.

I am surprised at how large the price range for business cards is (at least here in germany). Like, for the same quality, while most charge about 10 euro, some charge more than 3 times that.
