YouTube video by Fleece Spike Milligan - Parkinson 1980 - Jack Hobbs Dysentery Anecdote

And, finally... apparently, it’s the 43rd anniversary of Spike Milligan going on Parkinson and telling this extraordinary anecdote (to, among other people, James Coburn) about his friend, publisher Jack Hobbs, getting the shits

Two men in uniform stand either side of a woman with a remarkable flowery hat. They all seem more or less pleased to be cutting into a ceremonial cake – one which would be unremarkable and round, were it not for the enormous, fluffy atomic-style mushroom cloud emerging from its top. Wikipedia’s caption explains that this is Vice Admiral Blandy and his wife cutting the cake while Rear Admiral Frank J. Lowry looks on.

Today is the 79th anniversary of a perfectly ordinary party at the Officers’ Club of the Army War College in Washington, D.C., to mark the disbanding of the task force that organised atomic bomb tests in the Pacific, at which the attendees enjoyed a perfectly ordinary cake

In 1887, a large beacon or bonfire was built upon the Twmbarlwm above Risca to celebrate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria. This fantastic photo shows a large group of men, women and children standing on and around the beacon.

Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels: 'Not much can prepare you' Up to 20,000 spectators expected to watch people carrying flaming barrels through the town.

A brief history of the Tar Barrels at the small town of Ottery St. Mary, Devon where 15,000 to 20,000 people usually turn up to watch this event where only Ottregians can carry the flaming barrels. I went once & it was crazy.πŸ‘‡

We cannot continue letting billionaires keep the world's money while the poorest suffer

Since 2000, the richest 1% of the world's population has taken 41% of all new wealth. The poorest half of the world has received only 1%.

In October 1605, King James VI&I was in Royston when he was notified of a letter received by Lord Monteagle, a minister who owned a house in Royston, on the corner of what is now London Road and Sun Hill. The letter provided information about a conspiracy to assassinate the King.
