For #MosaicMonday mosaic decoration adorning the apse of Euphrasian basilica in #Poreč, Croatia. While being dated from the 6th century, it represents the only surviving depiction of Mother of the God in an early-Christian western basilica.

For today's #MosaicMonday an apse with two cherubim and Ark of the Convenant from Carolignan Oratory of #Germingy-des-Prés. Altough it is higly restored, it still bears the witness of the visual language after the iconoclastic struggle dated to the beginning of the 9th century.

The third, revised, and most extensive edition of Russian Imperialism by Professor Ivan Foletti has recently been published, this time in Italian. The book examines how Russian elites over the past two centuries have utilized the past and the arts to justify their imperial ambitions.

Professor Ivan Foletti will deliver a lecture in the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence on 15 July 2025 at 3:00 PM.

For this #FrescoFriday, outstanding murals from the #Haghpat monastery, which is located in #Armenia near the #Georgian border. The murals in the apse are dated to the early 13th century.

Our center organizes book festival called Libre:, which will be held on 16th and 17th May in Brno. Book selling and eye-catching browsing will be connected with honorary space for human sciences, containing of rich multigenerous accompanying program of debates, music, theatre and movie projections.

For #MosaicMonday floor mosaic in Early Christian basilica of Santa Reparata, now accesible from the #Florence Cathedral. It was created in the first decades of the 5th century and includes many Christian symbols, like the crosses, Salomon‘s knots and vases or peacock, completed by aniconic motives.

Last week’s visit to Bari presented opportunity to observe its diverse visual language, emerging from highly multicultural history due to its geographical position. Among many medieval jewels, students were confronted through the imposing architecture with importance of the city in the Fascist era.

Today is exactly six years since #Notre-Dame was on fire.
As the world remembers that dramatic event, we are currently working on a new #book that explores the myths, narratives, and cultural meanings surrounding the cathedral.

Do images serve us, or do we, on the contrary, submit to them? This question, among many others, was explored during our excursion to Lombardy, where we reflected on it in front of remarkable works such as the Altar of St. Ambrose, the treasures of Monza and Milan’s Duomo, and in Castelseprio.
