To be honest with you Jimmy I don't think that's any of your business
05.08.2025 18:16 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This has parallels with accessibility overlays/toolbars provided by individual sites - it's so obviously a better idea to do it at the device level, so the user only has to set it up once, but there's too much money in selling compliance solutions to tens of thousands of websites
05.08.2025 15:30 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks again for raising this - someone at the Government Cyber Coordination Centre (www.security.gov.uk/services-res...) is looking into it

03.08.2025 19:08 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0There's a cross-government Slack instance that's usually fairly reliable for rooting out someone who can get these things to the right people - I'll try that on Monday

That was Wage Day Advance too. Feels like someone in government should start to take this seriously...

26.07.2025 08:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I regret to report that the Bluesky facial age estimation is not fooled by pointing the camera at thispersondoesnotexist.com
25.07.2025 18:59 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Fucking hell, dipped my toe in LinkedIn today and I feel unclean already. All the toxicity of X, just with job titles
24.07.2025 18:53 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I've requested an internal review but I'll take it to the ICO if that's unsuccessful - seems pretty clear cut to me that they can't use that exemption: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/docu...
24.07.2025 17:17 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I've tested it, it's not. The recipient will see the (1) counter on the Chat icon, you won't get any notification that they can't see it, and you can't even go into your settings to disable DMs unless you verify
24.07.2025 16:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@bsky.app Could you let us access bsky.app/messages/set... without age verification so that we can change DM privacy settings?
24.07.2025 15:39 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0If you're in the UK you now need to verify your age in order to access DMs. But if your DMs are open, you now can't even access the settings screen to make them closed; it's gated behind the same age verification. So if you don't verify your age, your DMs are now a black hole

24.07.2025 14:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've submitted the IR request if you're interested: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/docu...
24.07.2025 12:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've asked for an internal review on DSIT / GDS's decision not to release any of the background research or design process behind the GOV.UK rebrand:
www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/docu...
If you're in the UK, you now need to verify that you're an adult in order to send DMs, including to this account.
This isn't in our control or a decision that Bluesky has made independently; they've been forced to do it by the Online Safety Act
www.openrightsgroup.org/publications...
"Share code, share designs, share ideas, share intentions, share failures."
Great, can I see your designs, ideas, intentions and failures please?
"No."
Also, it just doesn't feel very GDS-y.
What happened to "make things open: it makes things better"?
www.gov.uk/guidance/gov...
Thank you, it's helpful to know it's not just me that thinks they haven't used the exemptions properly. I'll put together an IR request tomorrow
22.07.2025 19:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm going to ask for an internal review (and will appeal to the ICO if necessary), I don't think their reasoning holds water
