So, I jinxed myself pretty hard when I said I was finally being consistent.
Real life has gotten super heavy lately. This is the last update I had finished and ready to post, and it'll be the last update for a little while (hopefully not too long) until things settle down a bit.
Back soon ๐
She refused to shy away or back down just to spare Cadeโs feelings. Instead, she stared with gritted teeth until Cade eventually looked away.
โJust thought Iโd ask,โ he muttered, retreating from the table and Autumnโs harsh gaze. โOfferโs there if you change your mind.โ
Cade grimaced for just a moment, but he didnโt let Autumnโs refusal stop him. โYou might like it. Might help you chill out a little.โ
โDoubt it,โ she sighed. Watcher, she hoped Kit couldnโt hear this.
โTheyโve got a pretty nice art collection,โ he shrugged. โIf youโre free tomorrowโโ
โIโm not.โ
The blonde opposite fell silent for a moment, tapping his fingers on the table as he contemplated his next move. โThereโs a museum. Here, in Oasis Springs.โ
โOkay?โ
โWe should go.โ
โTogether?โ
โYeah.โ
โLikeโฆ A date?โ
โYep.โ
โ๐๐ค.โ
Again, something like awe flickered across Cadeโs face. โYou really are full of surprises.โ
โNow yโknow why Iโm doinโ my homework at lunch. Too busy creatinโ a masterpiece,โ she snorted, rolling her eyes. She hated everything she tried to paint recently. Nothing turned out like she hoped it would.
Autumn seethed as Cade chuckled. What was it gonna take to get this guy to leave her alone?
โYou need to relax.โ
โAinโt any good at that.โ
โReally? Iโm ๐ด๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ฅ,โ he teased, his voice dripping with sarcasm. โWhat dโyou do for fun when youโre not playing cheerleading cowgirl?โ
โI paint.โ
She couldnโt focus. Cadeโs attention was firmly back on her, and she felt herself blushing under the weight of his stare.
โWeโve got more in common than I thought,โ he murmured.
โNo, we donโt.โ
โWeโre both twins.โ
โLoadsa people are twins.โ
โWe both look hot in greenโโ
โWatcher, shut ๐ถ๐ฑ.โ
Cadeโs head spun to look at her, eyes wide. โYouโre a twin, too?โ
โElleโs his best friend. Sheโs at our house all the time.โ
โPoor you,โ he snickered.
Autumn shrugged and turned back to her homework. She really didnโt want to get into a conversation about her friendsโ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ friends.
โPink t-shirt,โ Cade answered. โMaddie. Weโre twins. The other girl with black hair is my cousin, Elle.โ
Autumn paused, considering how much she should give away. โYeah, I know Elle,โ she admitted.
โHuh?! How?โ
โSee the weird guy with reddish hair?โ
โYeah?โ
โThatโs ๐ฎ๐บ twin.โ
โJust surprised my sisterโs found some even bigger losers to hang out with, thatโs all.โ
Autumn risked glancing over. โWhich one is she?โ she asked, although she could work it out. There was only one person she didnโt knowโ the girl whoโd stolen her seat next to Kit on that first day.
She shouldnโt bite, but she had to admit she was curious about what heโd seen. Sheโd tried her best not to look over in case sheโd caught Kitโs eye, and heโd taken it as an invitation. โWhat?โ
โThought you wanted quiet?โ
โWell, youโre obviously desperate to annoy me, so you might as well talk.โ
โI told you. Iโm busy.โ
โI could helpโโ
โI donโt need help. I need time, and some damn quiet.โ
โI can do quiet,โ Cade said, miming zipping up his lips.
To Autumnโs surprise and relief, he kept his word, his attention drawn to the table next to them. He huffed a quiet laugh and shook his head.
โWhat the hell,โ Cade muttered, half dazed, half amused. โAre you always this uptight?โ
โPretty much,โ she grumbled, stopping to collect her half-finished homework. She groaned as she saw Cade taking a seat.
โPhysics? Isnโt that due next period?โ
โ๐ ๐ฆ๐ด.โ
โArenโt you leaving it kinda late?โ
Cade jogged across the dusty courtyard. โI didnโt mean to!โ
โKeep your balls away from me in future,โ Autumn spat, the smirk that crossed Cadeโs face only annoying her more.
โSure. Can I have that one back at least?โ
โYep.โ She pulled her arm back as if she were drawing a bow, and fired.
โ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด๐ญ๐บ?!โ she hissed to herself as her homework scattered, and Scottie and Skye giggled.
There was a whole football field just a few steps away, who would be throwing a ball here, where people were trying toโ
Of course.
โMy bad.โ
Why did Scottie and Skye have to pick the table next to ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ฎ?
Sheโd tried to ignore how Kitโs jaw dropped when sheโd hopped off the school bus earlier, and the way his eyes had burned into the back of her head during Simlish class.
Lunch was almost over. She just had toโ
๐๐๐๐ผ๐พ๐!
Autumnโs rushed scribbles danced around the page as she tried to make sense of her homework.
The courtyard was sweaty and loud, and her head already felt stuffed to bursting point from her morning classes. Not to mention, she was painfully aware of the familiar dark eyes looking her way.
Now wasnโt the time to think about that; she had new friends, a new hobby, and today sheโd turn heads as she walked through the halls.
She blew a kiss to her dad, fended off the pleas for a photo from her mom, snatched a piece of fruit from the dining table, and dashed out the door.
She could have hugged her dad for that.
It hadnโt felt like many people were on her side lately. Austin despised her as always, Annie was too busy with her own friends, sheโd barely spoken to Kit since their first day at Oasis Highโฆ
Okay, that last one ๐ฎ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต have been her fault. Maybe.
โThat ainโt Autumn,โ Annie giggled through a mouthful of cereal. โThatโs a clone.โ
Austin nodded, glaring at his twin with even more disgust than usual. โKinda impressed that you found a way to look even bitchierโโ
โ๐๐๐ฎ!โ Teddy snapped. โDonโt use that word. โSpecially not โbout your sisters.โ
Her dad glanced over, his brows shooting skywards in shock. He opened his mouth to speak, but Autumn didnโt need to hear it to know what he had to say; ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฐ ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ-๐ถ๐ฑ, ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ด๐ฌ๐ช๐ณ๐ต ๐ช๐ด ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฐ ๐ด๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ตโฆ
Teddy must have read her mind, and he turned back to the coffee machine. โYup,โ he grumbled. โVery nice.โ
Walking downstairs to breakfast felt more like stepping out onto the stage of a sold-out stadium, and she shrank under the stares from her family.
โAutumn!โ her mother breathed, eyes lighting up. โYou look so grown-up! Doesnโt she look pretty, Teddy?โ
Autumn winced as she pulled her ponytail a little tighter. She already hated the sticky gloss sheโd just slicked over her lips, and the cheap, stiff fabric of her new uniform rubbed uncomfortably against her skin.
For the millionth time that morning, she questioned what the hell she was doing.
She is! I wondered if anyone would spot that! ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
