I think one simple answer is that it’s a lot more difficult for rich people to profit. Why don’t we produce solar panels in Canada? Nobody would willingly choose to build production capacity where they will need to create high paying jobs, look after the environment, and respect basic rights.

It’s the little wins that make life special. I have a PhD, but I’m more likely to feel satisfaction from repairing my wife’s phone case or sorting the recycling.
