This is very far from my personal experience. Science IS a creative endeavor. It requires a very specific set of technical skills (as other creative professions), but the main activity of a scientist (especially after becoming a PI) is mostly creative work, and having an artistic background helps.

I’ve had a couple of paper rejections lately that have stung quite a bit…

And this is exactly why civil servant positions have to be associated with absolute job stability and immune to being fired by politicians (as it’s the case in much of Europe)

I have already read Babel twice (and I will surely do so again and again) and I recommend it to everyone. I have read her other books, but this is my favorite.
The story and worldbuilding are extraordinary. Such a wonderful (though heartbreaking) thing R. F. Kuang managed to bring into this world.

Estoy en exactamente el mismo proceso y es indignante. Recuerdo cuando yo solicité la postdoc de la FCT portuguesa (la cual no conseguí, pero bueno) y la diferencia es abismal.

1. I feel like this is such obvious advice that it gets taken for granted & consequently no one says this to young scientists but READ PAPERS, read all the papers. As you move up in your career you will have less & less time to do this. Read everything that appeals to you not just in your field

Does it count if I am a Pharmacist working on immune-related stuff? (Now mainly nanoparticles for allergen specific immunotherapy)

Personalmente también creo que sería mejor una única especialidad multidisciplinar con ciertas competencias diferentes para médicos (consultas, etc). Pero sobre la renuncia, según esos datos, la tasa de renuncia en BIR es del 2,85%, superior al 1,71% de FIR. La que es muy alta es la de MIR (20,58%).

After a series of rejections (which include papers, awards and grants), I am glad to say I am feeling pretty good today. Managed to spend some time with students in the lab and organizing data for a new manuscript that I think will be quite cool.

I don’t ignore evidence. Anecdotes on the other hand, I have no problem ignoring. There are only 24 h in a day, and I do not have time to entertain approaches that have been thoroughly debunked a long time ago. I try to focus my energy on more productive activities, such as ending this conversation.
