It’s really fucked up boomers can be like that. I get along with my parents okay now but one of them is into all the maga shit and it’s so frustrating to talk about anything. I very rarely confide in my blood family about much because it’s just not worth the headache or heartache

I shared this news with my MAGA parents because some sad part of me still hopes that one day they’ll show an ounce of regret or remorse for supporting the felon.

All I get is more normalizing and religious platitudes.

We have to grieve the loss of the empathetic, compassionate parents we never had and stop seeking our parents' approval. They made their choices already. We were not it.

I cut off contact with my parents and two of my aunts over their decision to vote for Trump the second time but also because of a lifetime of their political position being "well we got a bad one this time, we'll just do better next time" and that being the end of it.

I have a brother who is on disability via Medicaid. My mom STILL supports Trump. I have tried to explain this to her but she’s honestly just not very bright. It’s sad to realize such a thing about your parents.

So many of these people have grandparents and older who immigrated from Europe to escape fascism. Seeing their descendants embracing it would be disheartening and make them wonder if their sacrifices were worth it.
