It was a fun night and so great to talk with so many about the future of Maine and what’s at stake in 2026.  We also celebrated the hard work of the Maine Democratic Party’s staff and volunteers in defeating Question 1 earlier this month!

It’s important to celebrate our veterans today, but even more important to honor their service with action, every day. To every veteran: thank you for your courage, devotion and your sacrifice for your fellow citizens.

Today, I met a veteran who had just moved into Peasley Park, after several years of homelessness in the community. Many have worked hard to reduce veteran homelessness in Maine, and as Governor, I will end it in my first year in office.

As I run for Governor, I’m committed to tackling Maine’s housing crisis—because safe, affordable housing is essential for families, workers, seniors, and especially our veterans.

I feel honored to have known Roy for many years as tireless advocate for Maine’s veterans, and it is wonderful to see him honored in this way by Kevin Bunker, Roy's dear friend and the project developer.

Some rare good news today from the US Supreme Court which just turned down a request to reconsider gay marriage and the Obergefell decision. I was the lead co-sponsor of gay marriage in 2009 as Speaker of the House, and I know how important it is to stand up for and uphold equality for all families.

Maine Family Planning will close its primary care practice at end of October The organization says the decision will affect hundreds of patients and is the result of a new federal law that bans providers who also offer abortions from billing Medicaid.

In my 20s, I relied on Planned Parenthood for my primary care, and I know so many others that do the same. I'm deeply saddened by this news.

We need a governor who will fight to protect access, to keep our clinics open, and to make sure every Mainer can get the care they need.
