I’m a current school board member and they’re doing the same thing here in AZ. Voucher expansions to privatize our schools, decimate the quality of education, and line the pockets of a few rich folks and families at the expense of working class folks.

The public education situation is so bad in Arizona that even the local educator’s union & admin were in support of the Roosevelt district’s recommendations because of what it would mean for salaries.

School closures often stem from inadequate funding, a direct result of decisions made by our majority GOP state legislature. By failing to properly fund public education, lawmakers force districts to make tough choices, like closing schools, just to balance budgets and meet basic needs.

The other night, I spoke at a Roosevelt school board hearing about the difficult decision to close schools. While these decisions are never easy, districts must sometimes close schools because of the failures of our state legislature.
