A bit of information to help you out with this - less than 1% of deaths and serious injuries on the roads are caused by cyclists.

Our local bus service's new hire training includes cycling on a street while busses drive past. They are, on the whole, reassuring to share the road with.

I’ve found lots of wood which is already old enough not to need months of seasoning. Most of what’s currently on my roof has been there for over a year though (mostly what came down the river in the floods at the end of 2023).
