Absolutely, Martin. That was discussed at length among councillors, and formed part of the motion. We need to have some faith in our young people. We've taken a lot from them! Time to give back

Why do Labour, Tories and Lib Dems have so little respect for people who complain that their council tax and pension contributions are funding genocide?

My speech to council earlier this week.

Wirral Council backs Green Party motion to champion outdoor play and child-friendly streets - Wirral Green Party Wirral Green Party is celebrating aย unanimous vote at Full Councilย last night (20 July) in support of a motion to help make the boroughโ€™s neighbourhoods safer, healthier, and more welcoming for childr...

Outdoor play isnโ€™t just about children. Itโ€™s about neighbourhoods that are safer, healthier, and more sociable for everyone.

Letโ€™s give kids back a little of what we once had. And in doing so, we just might improve life for all of us.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. ๐Ÿ’š

Iโ€™m grateful to Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors for their friendly and constructive amendments, which improved the motion. Cross-party working at its best.

There was also a debate about priorities โ€” and a brief detour to Hoylake Beach โ€” but we stayed focused on the real issue: our kids.

What we agreed:

โœ… Develop proposals to support outdoor play
โœ… Explore Play Streets & signage reviews
โœ… Co-design with children, families, and residents
โœ… Align with national play strategy
โœ… Report back within 6 months

Itโ€™s not everything โ€” but itโ€™s a strong start.

Raising The Nation โ€” A commission on play The โ€œRaising the Nation Commission on Playโ€, led and launched by social entrepreneur and author Paul Lindley in partnership with the Centre for Young Lives, aims to move play up the political agenda. ...

The Raising the Nation report lays it out clearly:

๐Ÿง  More anxious children
๐Ÿž๏ธ Less access to nature
โš–๏ธ Growing inequality
๐Ÿ“‰ Declining health and independence

It calls for local action โ€” and thatโ€™s exactly what weโ€™ve started here in Wirral.

A broken sign that says 'NO BALL GAMES. Terraced houses and trees behind

Many of us remember knocking for our mates, playing out until it got dark, kicking a ball against a wall or building wobbly go-karts.

For many children today, that freedom is gone. Roads are busy. Screens are everywhere. Outdoor play has been squeezed out of everyday life.

On Monday night at Wirral Council, we unanimously passed my @wirralgreenparty.bsky.social motion to support more welcoming, child-friendly neighbourhoods and a proper strategy to promote outdoor play. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

For an awful lot of politicians and pundits, the story about fixing our railways starts and stops with one word: NATIONALISATION. But this slogan alone is doomed to fail us all.

Watch me explain why for @greensorganise.bsky.social: #NotJustNationalisation
