On Sunday I post something from my time living in Japan. Pictured here are hagoita, which are precursor to the badminton racket. These items however, are adorned with textile portraits of famous characters from kabuki and mythology. Hagoita often are purchased by companies for at the new year yes.

The media empire is built to entertain and certainly if you find the Odyssey entertaining you'll get educated about it, but loads of people have their own entertainment that only brushes the ancient world by accident. Good media on epics is scarce.

Nothing makes you feel like more of a dick than referencing The Odyssey, to blank stares, then you clarify, "You know, Homer's Odyssey?"

And they think you're talking about the SIMPSONS, so you clarify, "No the GREEK guy!" And suddenly you're MR Pretentious.
