Brian Mast, chair of the Foreign Affairs committee, says "most congressional Democrats" are among the people "lining up in support of the ayatollah."
"They’re gonna line up next week and say, ‘We don’t want the president to have any authority to defend the [US] against the imminent threat of Iran."
"I have no indication that that [Iran was] anywhere close to getting nuclear weapons" says Cruz. "That's one of the reasons I urged President Trump, 'Now is the time." Israel's strikes last year "weakened the regime and set up what [we're] doing.”
We're bombing because the threat is *not* imminent.
Graham redefines "America First" to encompass military interventionism. He says it means to "make sure that no regime who wishes to hurt America can" do so. "America First is to kill people who wish us ill, with a record of trying to destroy us."
Don't need imminent threats. Ill wishes are enough.
Q: "How will the United States make sure that the next Iranian government isn’t worse?"
Graham basically admits we have no plan. "That’s not our job to pick the next Iranian government," he says. "It's not President Trump’s job. ... This idea, 'You break it, you own it' — I don’t buy that one bit."
"There is a persistent belief in Washington that enough explosions will cause the Iranian people to rise up against their government. History suggests otherwise... A regime-change strategy without a phased-action plan is not a strategy at all."

"We cannot be prosperous unless we are at peace. And we can’t live free as long as we have a government that is retaliating against its political opponents and undermining our civil liberties, weaponizing our very institutions against those they deem as threat."

"Republicans want you to believe that cheating is the only way Democrats can win elections."
Why? Because "if they can get the public to believe that, they can claim that they don’t have to accept the results."
My video on the GOP's scheme to delegitimize — and, if necessary, deny — the midterms.
All said, watch this new video from @saletan.bsky.social at @thebulwark.com breaking down the current threats to our elections
GOP control of Congress is probably still the biggest issue, and it’s that Congress that will have power in the months after the votes are cast. youtu.be/_1brg1AxxqY?...

"Trump’s campaign of violent mass deportations [is] becoming its own forever war... It has launched a huge arms buildup. And it also has what might be termed its very own war profiteers."

Did Trump pre-plan that crack about not all the Democrats standing up for the hockey team? (Presumably he would have had a few options, depending on what the Democrats did.)
If he did, that means he deliberately set up the players to be used as partisan props.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: @petebuttigieg.bsky.social is joining us on tonight's SOTU livestream with @timmiller.bsky.social to react to Trump's speech

We're going LIVE to respond to whatever happens at Trump's State of the Union. Join @timmiller.bsky.social, @samsteindc.bsky.social, @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social and many more from the team at 8:50 on Substack and YouTube.
After the speech @petebuttigieg.bsky.social will join us for a reaction.
Since this will likely come up in the SOTU: Yes, US stock markets are up since Trump took office (14%).
But in the rest of the world, markets are up WAY more. Cumulative market gains are more than triple ours (43%)
Trump is furious that Supreme Court justices, the Fed chairman, and some Republicans in Congress aren't giving him everything he wanted.
Why would all these people turn against him? It couldn't possibly be that he's the bad guy — could it?
My tear-jerking video on our poor, betrayed president.
The more Trump lies about how easy a war in Iran would be, the more leaks he gets from the people who know he’s lying.

Yesterday 10. Today 15. Do I hear 20?
It’s no wonder other countries are forming trade alliances to get away from us. Why would you even negotiate with a government whose commitments don’t last 24 hours?
This will do wonders to bring down prices throughout America.
