And Texhnolyze is just unflinchingly bleak from beginning to end. I kind of admire it as a mood piece, but the relentless nihilism honestly started to feel juvenile by the end.
Still, it's easily my favourite of the two shows and is definitely worth trying.
Honestly I'd say maybe given something like Witch Hunter Robin a try first.
Gilgamesh is cool in concept, but it's basically a six episode story where both the story and budget has been stretched to fit a 26 episode show. It's slightly torturous for the wrong reasons.
Just don't walk too far down that path or you'll end up with a Gilgamesh or Texhnolyze. 😬

Of course Dicta Striker's trainer would turn out to be Kaiki Deishuu
I've been wondering why all the mothers in Uma Musume only show up with eyes covered, watching races at home.
At first I thought it was a draconian horse law that parents of racers have to be blinded & put under house arrest, but it's more likely they just instantly become (reincarnated) ghosts.

I know I've seen engagement accounts posting clips of it that have done pretty big numbers on the other site, so there definitely seems to be a level of visibility & enthusiasm rarely seen for these types of grounded, intimate character shows.
The current top 10 Winter 2026 anime series according to ANN readers. Journal With Witch has consistently been #1 for the last five weeks, and was #2 prior to that. (4nn.cx/.234885)
I'd be interested to hear if this is decidedly different elsewhere.
After 9 yeareals, it's finally my turn to post the "a thousand cereals" clip, seeing as how I'm the idiot who made it.

Matsuki was arrested for assault on a middle school student August 2020, and subsequently received a guilty verdict (1 year and 6 months in prison.)
My friend J-Maz on how director Sunao Katabuchi's studio Contrail was absorbed by MAPPA and the difficulties of making anime. An enlightening deep dive.
