Maybe I'm getting old, but with CSM I really feel the importance of static imagery to create powerful tableaus over the most luxurious movement. Some ideas just hit harder when you're forced to stand still & sit with them

And yet, despite thinking it's an excellent adaptation, I still feel it doesn't quite capture the emotional resonance of the manga.

The fight dragged on a little and occasionally focused on fast-based fluidity & spectacle over visual cohesion, but eh, it's Mappa aping Holywood blockbusters again.

It sure wasn't the mess of the Shibuya Arc or Unfotable's output over the last decade, but none of it hit me like the slower beats.

The Reze movie was about what I expected, which is to say pretty damn good. No idea what the aggressively online tv show haters might think, but I didn't think it missed a beat from the shift in director.

Perfectly paced, even if the more insular story mostly robs us of Power & Kobeni

Update: I was the only person in the 50 seat cinema, which as far as I'm concerned paid for itself even without the film

I went back to one-shot Milky Subway: Galactic Limited Express now that the first season(?) is all out.

Man, I really hope this provides more opportunities for Yōhei Kameyama to showcase his skills. Dude has a talent for writing. And direction. And design. And mode...

At the very least it's a reminder to watch some of their movies. And maaaaybe True Tears, although I think I've missed the boat on appreciating that. age-wise.

Btw, are you still watching the new series? I'm curious if the script improved, or at the very least the technocrat felatio let up?

A lot f people know the likes of Uma Musume, Shirobako, Ya Boy Kongming & Hanasaku Iroha, but some real low-key gems of theirs include Tari Tari, The Eccentric Family S1/2, Sakura Quest, Appare-Ranman, Aquatope, Akiba Maid War & Mayonaka Punch

If the worse you can say about a studios output is that they've have around 5-6 merely watchable titles in a quarter of a century, that's pretty damn great.

I'm currently watching Pumpkin Wine, and damn, the resurgent of tall wife appreciation in recent years could really get eyes on a remake. And with a few tweaks I think an updated Hibari-kun would be a legit hit

why should you watch simoun?
- heartfelt sf story about politics, gender and religion
- postcard memories
- beautiful art direction by shinichiro kobayashi
- early scripts by mari okada
- sho aikawa is there (under a pseudonym??)

I'd say that's true for much of the latter end of the decade, but the early 90's still had some pretty culturally dated templates, eg specific styles of slightly New Age surf pop like Baby I Love Your Way and whatever Ace of the Base was churning out

Less grammatically clunky, Khara approved broken English terminology than the Amazan version as well. And not to be mean, but I thought some of the og cast had aged out of those roles. Both constantly took me out of the movies.

That sucks. I have a soft spot for the the original rebuild dub. I can't speak for what the scrapped dub sounded like, but the dvd/bd release sounded perfectly respectful. They felt like a more refined, tonally consistent version of the adv tv dub.
