I spent months in the primary sources. Here's what I found.

Capitalism vs Socialism is a false choice invented after the Founders died. Jefferson never said capitalism. Adams never said socialism. They said General Welfare. Ease, Comfort, Security - in a word Happiness, to the greatest number. Stop fighting over their labels. Demand their outcomes.
The 'Pursuit of Happiness' in the Declaration has a definition. John Adams wrote it in 1776: ease, comfort, and security. You were never taught that. Ask yourself why.
In October of 1785 Jefferson wrote Madison that enormous inequality produces misery, and proposed exempting the poor from taxation while taxing higher wealth in geometrical progression as it rises. That's not socialism. That's Jefferson. In a letter. To Madison. Look it up.

October 28th 1785. Exempt the poor from taxation entirely. Tax the wealthy progressively as wealth rises. His words. His idea. His Republic. Next time someone calls progressive taxation socialism — remind them which Founding Father proposed it.

Liberty without Security is just the freedom to starve in the cold.
Security without Liberty is mere subsistence - the life of a well-fed prisoner.

Hamilton wanted the luxury of the rich to fund the public treasury. Instead we invented "buy, borrow, die" — a system where the ultra-wealthy pay nothing and leave the debt to us. He'd have called it what it is. Theft.
Concentrated wealth redefined the 'Pursuit of Happiness' as rugged individualism. John Adams meant ease, comfort, and security for every citizen. The rewrite wasn't accidental. It was profitable.
