My comment in solidarity with Jess Phillips MP and the need to work together to tackle exploitation and violence against women and girls👇

To support my unwise attempt to run🏃♂️a 100mile ultra marathon in Chester in April, see the comments below.

My day job focusses on supporting women, girls and their families avoid deep inequalities such as poverty, ill health and domestic abuse. I see the profound importance of community support to prevent people falling into crisis, and sport has a major role to play.
I believe deeply in the power of sport to empower people to lead healthy, happy and flourishing lives. Much more could be done to widen access for people from many backgrounds, but especially women and girls. After all, it’s the least I would want for my own daughters.
They work tirelessly to widen access for women and girls to fair and safe sport for the joy, fulfilment and lifelong benefits it offers.

They represent one avenue among others to reduce crime, reduce harmful and expensive imprisonment and create better lives for women, their families and their communities. It offers opportunities for young people and men too. 6/
At the JABBS Foundation we’re looking at how to spread best practice of these new courts nationally to ensure women get specialist support in the community, to tackle the causes of mental ill health, addiction and crime. 5/
With women’s centre Anawim playing a fundamental role in building trusting relationships with women in crisis, & working closely with probation, Uni of Birmingham & various health services, we’re seeing improved health outcomes and reduced reoffending. It’s a wonderful and innovative partnership. 4/
This article follows Gauke’s visit to the problem solving court in Birmingham, that I had the privilege of helping establish as Co-Chair of the Strategic Board and as a long-term political advocate for these reforms. 3/
These courts aim to help people through deep rooted problems that lead to crime. For women’s problem solving courts, they look at the interaction between domestic abuse and addiction, and many associated issues of trauma, poverty & barriers eg insufficient disability or mental health support. 2/
⚖️⭐️PROBLEM SOLVING COURTS⭐️⚖️
While this news headline doesn’t quite capture the supportive & compassionate approaches taken by new problem solving courts, it’s fantastic to see these court reforms being recognised by government and David Gauke who is leading the government’s Sentencing Review. 1/
Last week we premiered all ten films @warnerbrothers.bsky.social. A panel chaired by @tommcneil.bsky.social with reps from @whymeuk.bsky.social, RIFT Social Enterprise and journalist @dannyshaw.bsky.social explored how storytelling and media shape public understanding and policy change.
