Doing a reread of all his stuff and like...he plays up his horror works in a way that's very intentionally theatrical, almost tongue-in-cheek at times, but the Dreamlands is where a lot of his actual soul went. It's got a vibe that's harder to pin down, though, which might be why it remains obscure.
