He missed the chance to pause dramatically, make a note on a pad and say “thanks for the suggestion”.

There are now a record 3,428 billionaires in the world. They are richer than ever with $20.1 trillion between them - up 25% in JUST the last 12 months.
PMUK’s @stephenstroud.bsky.social discusses the Forbes World's Billionaires List and why we need to get a grip of this concentrated, extreme wealth

Absolutely. We were just discussing those donation boxes in a Stroud group.
That’s why philanthropy is fine for the fluffier causes but for essential services we need a fair tax system that’s properly enforced.
It’s not the bank notes that concern me but the bitcoins and other untaxed wealth.

A pleasure to be invited onto TalkTV last night for a rational discussion of the case for a wealth tax.

Did nobody warn her against photo opps with dumb beasts destined for the chop?
Her PR advisors must secretly hate her.

Excellent news. Can we expect the professional body to take swift action?

Similarly, I never understand why so many politicians boast of having "drawn a line in the sand".

That very odd organisation has form for threatening legal action and not delivering.
I wonder who funds it. The published accounts are not very revealing.

I would support Gill being offered a huge discount on his sentence in return for giving up others.

Yes, and that's why Europe is increasingly resistant to an AI that is so US-informed.

Someone should reduce this to 20 or so tweets that Badenoch might read. Though we’d then need a bot army to get it sufficient likes.

Yes, have the book and have heard him speak a couple of times.
I remember years ago someone senior asking me how much I was prepared to “sacrifice” for the firm. At some very fundamental level I genuinely didn’t understand them.

If only Dominic Raab were still around to share a pithy observation on that.

For some reason reminds me of (probably apocryphal) Dennis Skinner Commons exchange.

DS - half the Tories opposite are crooks
Speaker - withdraw
DS - OK, half the Tories opposite are not crooks

The Lady Vanishes is on iPlayer if you want that rare combo of espionage thrills + spiky rom-com banter + anti-appeasement allegory + Brits-abroad character comedy + fascist menace + gaslighting + historically permissible national stereotypes + half the DNA of The Grand Budapest Hotel

A cartoon by Ron Cobb (1975), showing a shadow of US B-52 bomber above cratered landscape. Two people who look like Vietnamese peasants look up; one says “they’re having problems with their economy again.”

This is from 1975.

Ha, thanks! As you know the trick is to guess the word early. It actually helps to get a few of the letters early but in the wrong spots. Plus it doesn’t penalise you for guessing non-words. Would be far harder if it did.
