Someone recently tried on me the defence that "Oxford isn't the only University with these issues".
You would have hoped they could do better than that.

I have now been warning for over 3 years of Oxford’s neglect of its duty of care to both academics and students, in relation to both zero hours contracts and sexual predation. Latest Private Eye is again on the case. Can the ostrich defence continue much longer?

Yes it would need serious guardrails, which is why it will be very challenging if even possible. And I’d stipulate that I can’t see how it could be provided by a profit-seeking or ad-funded platform. It may well be more baby than bathwater.

I don't think we are miles apart. I took the thread as a suggestion that there could be scope for some hand-holding between sessions but not as a substitute for human therapists.

So many of us are not viscerally opposed to AI : we simply don’t believe the claims for it by those over invested in it.
A reckoning is coming soon it seems.

Good thoughtful thread that feels itself like a form of therapy. And maybe there is a genuine use case for a benign AI if it could be developed and made safer.

True, though some such as Ofcom have considerable resources that they deploy to little effect. There are other reasons why “independent” regulation performs so poorly in the UK. For instance, does Govt appoint the right people and genuinely encourage them to be robust?

I know what you mean and agree, but equally only around 3% of world population would ever migrate. Vast majority prefer to stay close to where they were born. Which also underlines how exaggerated are the fears, as long as we work harder on avoiding the shocks that cause forced migration.
