So many of us are not viscerally opposed to AI : we simply don’t believe the claims for it by those over invested in it.
A reckoning is coming soon it seems.

Good thoughtful thread that feels itself like a form of therapy. And maybe there is a genuine use case for a benign AI if it could be developed and made safer.

That’s only around Β£15m per Reform MP so far. A great deal cheaper than buying US Senators.

I'm disappointed that Trump hasn't unearthed the following quote often (mis?)attributed to Churchill.

"You can depend upon the Americans to do the right thing.
But only after they have exhausted every other possibility."

And who knew they had so many missiles and drones? As if that very fact weren't one of the main pretexts for this latest adventure.

Billions on something so vulnerable that you can’t move or hide. Three cheers again for the marvel that is military procurement.

That’s good.

Agreed. But they aren’t there to protect the US from incoming. I only meant that it’s barely appropriate to call it a war when one side faces so little real jeopardy. Hegseth doesn’t even want to talk about the 6 casualties.

I’m sitting back waiting for the replies to that one.

Yes, but the only US targets they have are ones that the US chooses to locate within range.

04.03.2026 15:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I seem to recall Bill Hicks pointing out, in relation to an earlier US excursion, that "a war is when you have TWO armies fighting".
What we are witnessing here is merely target practice.

One of the many annoying things about this development, is that I have a number of pairs of RayBans. Will I now be challenged for wearing them? Was the Meta contract worth it for the brand damage?

Good, and thank you.

Trump likes a medal. Could we persuade you to strike one to recognise his ongoing contributions to EU unity?

Hint for headline writers: if you have to tell us that they were once "senior figures" it might just possibly not be much of a story.
I don't doubt they will fit right in.

True, though some such as Ofcom have considerable resources that they deploy to little effect. There are other reasons why β€œindependent” regulation performs so poorly in the UK. For instance, does Govt appoint the right people and genuinely encourage them to be robust?

04.03.2026 09:42 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I know what you mean and agree, but equally only around 3% of world population would ever migrate. Vast majority prefer to stay close to where they were born. Which also underlines how exaggerated are the fears, as long as we work harder on avoiding the shocks that cause forced migration.

Well, Churchill is often misquoted on this, but his preference was "jaw jaw rather than war war".
So, closer to Starmer than Trump.
