That may be, but my thesis is that the belief that ozempic will have bad side effects doesnt come from a place of concern but from a punitive desire: “how dare these interloping fatties try to join our club? We’re thin because we’re moral and good. God must therefore punish them.”

It’s not that. In their mind, people should only be able to lose weight through struggle and suffering. In their mind, the drug is allowing those who struggle with their weight to enter a club, thinness, without their permission and ‘earning it.’ The specifics of the drug are immaterial.

As other have pointed out, there are native california palms. Additionally, these are Canary Island date palms (P. canariensis), though, which are native to the Canary islands not true date palms (P. dactylifera).

Also, to be clear, I'm not calling those people wrong. It's fine to believe that it's not okay for a machine to do _______ (create video, essays, etc) even if it can do so wholly without the negative effects cited

This view is generally not explicit. But, arguing about the specifics isn't really productive, since they've started from the conclusion.

There's a contingent that view AI as a social identity threat: (1) it is intolerable to my identity, even in principle, that AI could possibly do ______ (2) therefore, it must be either impossible or entail such dire consequences that it's morally reprehensible.

A screenshot of Molly’s original threads screenshot. After nearly the same amount of time after posting, the bluesky post has far more engagement.

The difference in engagement after 41 vs 42 minutes

Not a parent but Arrival nonetheless absolutely destroys me (in a way Interstellar doesn’t)

MAGAs have made it extremely clear that they will ONLY accept public speech from Democrats and the left if they get to viciously abuse and threaten us as much as they want in return.

Fuck that.

Don’t fall for their lies about “echo chambers.”

It’s advice they’re never asked to take.

100% this. A lot of things about us infuriate them, but perhaps the most infuriating is:

they know they need us but we don't need them
