I get this, I do, but I'm also so tired of the "imagine if..." framing of these things. Yeah, Republicans are hypocrites, among every other horrible thing they are. It's unnecessary to imagine Mamdani doing this because he wouldn't, but also because Republicans already act like he did, anyway.

Even the most committed people are susceptible to peer pressure. Even if not directly applied, the subtle pressure of being the only one masking in any crowd can push someone to consider covid an acceptable risk. So fewer people masking leads to fewer people masking, regardless of ideology.
