if there is one thing i am sure of it’s the fΓ«anorian propensity for making titles and honorifics derogatory. i just know that fΓ«anΓ‘ro somehow injected an ability to say the words β€œmy lord” in such a way that it sounds like a slur into that bloodline

if I find a horny book that is good I will let you know because I feel that problem. bataille was right that books only about sex are unsexy. also it's not narrative but you might be interested in bataille's "eroticism"

Dostoevskij was crazy when he wrote Raskol'nikov. Crazy.

Crime and punishment is addictively easy to read. I think in terms of sheer beauty of the prose, other authors like Hugo do it better. But psychology, hook, plot development? Top notch.

i think one of the funniest emotions a person can go through is finally getting to a classic novel or film and discovering that it is in fact a masterpiece just like everyone said because you can’t help but be a little mad. you’re in awe of something truly beautiful but you’re also like goddamnit

A brown-and-white rabbit sits on grass in front of a wire fence, mouth wide open mid-yawn or vocalization. One ear stands upright while the other lies back, with sunlight highlighting its fur and whiskers.

madame bovary in a way also works because emma is not one. there's a smallness and a pettiness of heart that are entirely realistic, in her, in her lover, in secondary characters. a certain frankness in showing the results of frustrated ambitions and, I guess, desire for pleasure and importance.

still can't turn her into a likable character. this is potentially because flaubert still remains a man, and though he doesn't condemn her per se, he still condemned himself to the inability to make her a positive figure. that said, there isn't really a necessity to make her one, per se.
