I’m hand sewing the neckline on a knit romper because the angle of the V neck makes it awkward to tuck in the raw edges and it’s just easier to do by hand than on the machine. But ANYWAY it’s fussy - in an amazing way and in a tedious way, but even the tediousness is pretty cool.

I saw a baby be born (for the first time!!!!) this week as a volunteer doula at my local hospital. Mom was a total fucking CHAMP and I feel so grateful and privileged she allowed me to be present and offer her support.

Tbh I am only familiar bc I am a librarian and when I checked books in/out “Nourishing Traditions” came across my desk frequently! I liked the cover illustrations but when I flipped through it...yikes! Definitely a good example of how the groundwork for these movements has been laid for a while

fun fact! UCEDDs emerged out of things like the investigation RFK (Sr.) did into institutions like Willowbrook and THREE UCEDDs are named after members of the Kennedy Family (JFK, Rose, and Eunice Shriver) and yet, RFK Jr. supervises their defunding because of his antagonism towards disabled people.

UCEDDs evolved out of the movement to de-institutionalize people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and support them living with their families, in their communities. They seek to facilitate the flow of information, resources and clinical services from universities to the community.

I like this. Last week I presented at ALA about how UCEDDs (university centers for excellence in developmental disabilities) can be used by librarians across the country to support patrons with disabilities and get important info. UCEDDs got defunded 4 days later.
