Iβd also like to see bloody stiff penalties inc. jail time for detectorists who donβt follow procedure and call in the archaeologists immediately. As Tess says, context is everything.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi was left speechless while testifying about whether the FBI had found photos of Trump with naked, possibly underage girls among Epsteinβs possessions.

As archaeologists we bear witness to the destruction of the natural environment. Up close. In real time. We are entangled in that destruction and it impacts us. A callous and uncaring approach to planning behind Reeve's comments should be sickening to everyone involved in such grave undertakings. πΊ

They've actually increased the budget wtf?
Did they increase the funding for the animal rescue centres that deal with the aftermath?

Agreed, Tess - weβre sending all the wrong messages.
How about: the reward is split differently, half to the receiving museum, the other half split between finder & landowner. That would be a bit more responsible, and still give the landowner/finder a nice windfall.
My thoughts...

07.10.2025 08:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We need to utterly transform how we protect our heritage: more funding for museums, more education and disrupting our equation of heritage with monetary value. This isn't a one off. From our fiekds to our museum cases, antiquities are seen as objects for personal acquisition and monetary gain.
