They guard the airports. How do you feel about that?

@jordangeli.bsky.social helped fight to bring pro women’s soccer to Denver, and now the inaugural game is finally here.

With the fans rallying behind them, she hopes the team brings the beauty and spirit of Colorado onto the pitch 💚

All the money the US govt has wasted

so that jackbooted thugs could kidnap Guatemalan senior citizens who have lived and worked in America without incident for 30 years

- you think maybe we could use that instead to have DHS guard synagogues and mosques?

After two years of war in Gaza, which I was against

we now have war with Iran, which I am against.

And we had a week of domestic antisemitic violence which I am against.

I have run out of new and interesting ways in sermons to say ‘it’s enough with this bullshit.’

This is why ‘stop Jew-hate’ failed as a term.

Is it ‘hate of Jews’? Or ‘hate by Jews’?

Egg prices have taken a beating. What's behind the drop? A year ago, eggs were scarce and prices were sky-high. But avian flu took a much smaller toll on America's egg-laying chickens this winter than last, and egg prices have tumbled 42%.

The world is on fire

the economy is tanking

the stock market is plummeting

xenophobia and antisemitism are raging

democracy is in peril.

But hey a dozen eggs is a lot cheaper than it used to be!

On a related note, if you see someone here or elsewhere calling this out as a ‘false flag’ operation

make sure to tell them to go fuck themselves.

Gonna be a tough shabbat for us folks in Pittsburgh.

Imagine just trying to go to your spiritual home, your place of calm

and knowing that people see it as ‘a target.’ Very unsettling.

Just a super time to be hosting the NFL draft

which will undoubtedly require more police overtime.

Well, MRIs sometimes change what both coaches and players think. Not that I know thats what happened. We’ll wait and see what the MLS injury report tomorrow says.

Sounds like Zack Steffen's shoulder injury will put him out for at least this week, and possibly longer.

Having a youth soccer branch:

- generates revenue.
- creates goodwill.
- gives the team a built-in, lifelong fanbase.
- is good PR.
- embeds your club in the community.

Cutting your youth program?

A corporate business decision that is the definition of penny smart, pound foolish.

But USL owners also are more likely to be worth ~$50m net, and so they can’t absorb millions of dollar losses. Gotta operate on balance.

Still unclear, 20 yrs on, if buying a USL team is a smart business investment.

Totally. USL owners are gambling - as are all lower league owners - that they’re buying an asset cheaper but that will still appreciate while they eat the losses.

USL is like buying a gallery painting of an unknown artist for $50k. Maybe it becomes worth $1mil. Maybe its a bored ape nft.

This post may have been brought to you by the fact that my stock investments have lost me $300 this FY

but betting on soccer has made me $31.47.

Capitalism is so dumb.

The more time I spend adulting

- working and saving and investing and spending and borrowing -

the more I think that capitalism is mostly bullshit.

I’ve always rejected that idea for sports teams. They aren’t businesses. They’re luxury goods that appreciate, like a Picasso.

You don’t buy a Picasso to charge fees to see it. You own it because you’re so fucking rich that you can, & it’s a unique good.

These are all billionaire toys. That’s it.

I don’t think positive cash flow matters.

My house doesn’t provide positive cash flow. But its appreciation 1) allows me to borrow against it for all sorta of things 2) means if I ever want to sell it and get a condo instead, I make a huge ROI.

Forget profit. Think ROI and asset valuation.

I say this roughly every year.

According to Forbes, they lose btw $1m and $4m every year.

However, the franchise was worth $31m in 2008, and are worth $415m now.

Thats a $21m appreciation each year.

I’d take that any day.
