A #BlueskyLullaby for tonight: Supposedly, the excellence of this recording of Vic Damone covering "On the Street Where You Live" convinced wavering producers to keep the song in the Broadway debut of 'My Fair Lady.' Damone's pianist, who convinced him to do the song: John Williams. See you around.
I walked into a screening of EPiC utterly indifferent about Elvis. I walked out in love with the man. When I told Baz Luhrmann about this "miracle," he said, "Tim, you are my favorite customer."
Congrats to album producers Trevor Jones and @tgreiving.bsky.social on winning "Best Archival Release" from the IFMCA for the new THE DARK CRYSTAL 3-Disc CD set.
If you've never seen this movie - see it!
Jim Henson at his best, and Mr. Jones' soaring, romantic score is superb.

Happy birthday to the BEST, George Harrison, who would be 83 today. It was such a thrill back in 2021 to interview his widow, Olivia, and son Dhani on the 50th anniversary of his masterpiece, ALL THINGS MUST PASS.
As I wrote in the lede: All things must pass, but George Harrison is forever.
War Horse in London was a transporting experience for me. Jim was right!
I was similarly disappointed to learn recently that Terrence Malick's year at Oxford was not very impactful on him, and that he didn't enjoy his time there.
John Williams is 94 today, and I love him and his music more than the 300,000 (plus) words I've written about him could ever express.
A toast to the man who changed my life when I was 8 and first discovered his music, and again when I was 38 and he agreed to trust me to tell his life story, and who changes my mood for the better almost every single day.
Happy birthday to John Williams, BOTD in 1932.
His music has been part of the soundtrack of my life - as it has for countless others - since the 1960s.
I could write a book about it, but, lucky for us, @tgreiving.bsky.social already has.
One of the most compelling bios you'll ever read.

I just can't get past the allergy of the cover band feeling this far away from the Henson/Oz era. (Which is why I haven't watched the new thing yet.)
Not a bad list, but it's a huge bummer to exclude Bryce Dessner's TRAIN DREAMS and Daniel Lopatin's MARTY SUPREME. (Daniel Blumberg's TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE didn't even make the shortlist, for shame.) And I would personally disqualify HAMNET for its egregious climactic needledrop.
101 reasons why more films should shoot in LA!
I just added a few dozen blind spot movies to my watchlist from this instructive and extremely readable list. (I *knew* Grand Canyon wouldn't be on here, but doggone it, it's still a travesty!)
"I'd like to thank the Golden Globes" is such an absurdly funny (and oft repeated last night) sentence
Sweet Danny Ocean! Steven Soderbergh done read my book 😍
I hope it was worth the wait!
I was also waiting fervently for @alissawilkinson.bsky.social 's review—and it did not disappoint!
I was hypnotized by THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE, which features Amanda Seyfried's career best performance, and particularly by its meditative Shaker song-score by Daniel Blumberg. I spoke with him, Seyfried, and director Mona Fastvold about their feat of creating the experience of religious fervor.
About 100 pages into @tgreiving.bsky.social ‘s biography of John Williams and loving it so far.
After this year it’s very refreshing to read a biography of a truly beautiful soul.

Oliver Stone's NIXON, now more than ever.
A guest column by moi, in advance of tomorrow's dream-come-true 30th anniversary screening with me and Mr. Stone.
Start the year with a celebration of great film music. I'm interviewing Tim Greiving, the first-ever biographer of John Williams, at The Hugo House in Seattle on January 8.
Tim Greiving, author of the recent John Williams biography, has a fantastic SubStack where he shares articles/posts like this one below. This one in particular touches on John's use of synths and sampling. A great read!

Great profile of a GREAT score
Thank you!
Hands reaching up from hell
Tim Greiving has written the definitive biography of John Williams, and I think you'll have fun listening to us talk about the art of writing about creatives, which of Williams' scores is the best, and why the cautionary advice "never meet your heroes" didn't hold up in this case.
