my ultimate takeaway from the past few weeks has been a growing need for the ability to pull my own brain out of a place it got stuck in. i think it gets hard for me to change / draw out the qualities i like about myself when i can't forget the Little Thing nagging at me, and it builds bad patterns.

two thoughts:

1) i am personally having an absolute blast with ZA. it's a straight-down-the-plate homerun if you were to list out what i love in a game

2) i don't think the online discourse on it could be any less relevant to the actual game. i opened twitter and got flashbanged w nonsense

friends - working on some video editing for job. specifically looking at videos where the onscreen content and the voiceover are extremely well paced, as reference for editing techniques.

i.e. "This has been a hard day, but you also recognize what you did that made it hard for you to be ready for it" has actually done a LOT of legwork, as well as, "You are tired/experiencing the effects of a decision you made knowingly, you already adjusted your goals for the day as a result"

I'm trying to not catastrophize but man sometimes it just feels bad. I have noticed it IS helping to treat that catastrophic mindset as a result of a real controllable decision, though - it helps underline it both as legitimate, preventable, and resolvable

i have this strong memory of being SOOOO excited to play SMG2 with my sister and being like "I hope they do a story like last time" and then just having my excitement completely decimated by the presentation

which is a shame cuz I think the level design in SMG2 is REALLY good

i don't think this is a surprising conclusion to most people but i guess i just hoped i wouldn't be victim to it in a field that was so desperately in need of people

my petty bitter take is that i am finding that after years of trying to gain experience to lead a program, and learning from some crucial failures, the people who i now have to report to as a subordinate have no interest in learning those lessons and simply displace the burden of growing to others

i have an overwhelming need to create things. i want to start finding that part of myself again.
