Confusing Lands board game. It’s a “tile laying game” but the “tiles” are cards. The cards are playing cad sized and each features 6 equal sized squares of varying symbols (river, field, village, elk and a few scoring icons) all sitting on a brownish quartz countertop.
Test playing a new #BoardGame for the teen #SchoolLibrary. #ConfusingLands is a great addition. Quick to teach. Plays in about 15 minutes. Small footprint. Already excited to see how the upcoming stand alone expansion Ice Bound Isles will impact the game play.

Objection: What Happened in Dallas County Was Not a Glitch
What happened in Dallas County tonight should scare the hell out of you.
What just happened in Dallas County is one of the most blatant voter suppression operations I've ever seen—and it happened in a *primary*.
In March. Imagine November.
I broke it down here:

Oh, so much THIS. The have-nots succumb to cognitive offloading, and while the "data" show the achievement gap closing, it's actually growing.

“How Teens Use and View AI”
PEW RESEARCH CENTER
According to PEW, teens in households making under $75K are more likely to use chatbots for help with all or most schoolwork. I read a comment on another platform that said this is amazing news because we are "finally going to close the achievement gap." That is not how I would interpret this data.

My college-age kid just told me: "If rich parents, the same group of people that gobble up any and all opportunities to give their kids a leg up, aren't using it, that tells you everything you need to know."

Chromebooks are going to close the achievement gap! Learn-to-code programs are going to close the achievement gap! AI is going to close the achievement gap! [This shiny new tech thing that is funded by VC] is going to close the achievement gap!

Spend the money on a school librarian and a school library.
Much better than any tech or AI for achievement.

Condoms, gift cards and wedding gifts: Arizona parents allegedly misspent $10 million in ESA funds
The Arizona Department of Education records obtained by 12News show misspending could be 20% of all purchases in the $1 billion voucher program.
1 out of 5 of the parents who got voucher money in Arizona–taxpayer cash stolen from public schools to fund private education–used it on things they were illegal for them to use it on.
Not shocking in the least. Scammers, thieves, and liars.

I think I have seen some or all of every Star Trek property in existence (minus Star Fleet Academy, which I'm getting to soon), and I have noticed that every time Star Trek tries to feature elements meant to appeal to in-universe children, they're really creepy.

Easily THE best part of reading this pair for our school-wide humor award - student asks “How did you make that noise in the book?”
Me: “The snoring sound at the end?”
S: “No, the noise to made through the whole book.”
….at least 60 more seconds of figuring this out…

I jumped into a video chat that I thought was attended by all women, except for me.
There was someone I didn't recognize there that I was 100% sure was a woman wearing a fake Mario mustache.
Fortunately, before I actually LOLd, saw it was a guy whose camera was angled weird. 😂

Jackson library moves 37 books as director warns of 'slippery slope' in censorship
The Jackson-Madison County Library Board moved 37 young adult books to the adult section after a citizen request.
"They proposed solutions such as building walls around the 18 & up literature section and requiring ID checks or keypad entry to access it."
Teens at Jackson-Madison Library (TN) can drive themselves to the library but cannot browse adult sections w/o permission.
