Epstein was clearly trying to blackmail Trump. There is about a 5% chance he committed suicide and a 95% chance Trump had him killed.

The biggest silver lining of the shutdown is restoration of SNAP benefits, which never should have been lost to begin with. What does it say about this country that so many working people are reliant on SNAP?

It seems like Dems are counting on the courts to prevent that scenario. Again, rationale is understandable, but it’s still risky business. Had Dems held through the holidays, Republicans would likely have caved.

Caving on SNAP also sets a potentially dangerous precedent. What if Trump tries to use it in future negotiations? @democrats.org are essentially negotiating with terrorists.

SNAP was the only reason to give in. People need to eat. Politically, the Trump admin and Republicans clearly shouldered the blame. On the ground, it wasn’t clear whether people would actually go more hungry given state and local community efforts to backstop losses.

It also makes the Republican case stronger that Dems were responsible for the shutdown. Risky business for the @democrats.org when holding firm was a clear win.

The Democratic strategy makes great sense politically on paper, but it gives up one major point of leverage - holiday travel. Let’s hope the backroom deals hold up and we get ACA subsidies.
