Idk man, it’s just a bummer. When I started typing this I didn’t mean for it to be this long. Just wanted to share my feelings on it all. I’m not selling all my cards or anything anytime soon, but I also don’t feel like putting in the effort or excitement to participating in the hobby anytime soon.

It is shocking how much money some people are pouring into Pokemon cards behind the scenes, the lengths that they’ll go to to lock down product, and the hissy fits they throw when other scalpers or other buyers beat them out using the same strategies that they themselves are using.

The section of the community that focuses on value and turning a profit instead of the enjoyment of collecting has essentially phased out the average collector and turned the hobby into a premium market, similar to that of sneakers.

On top of that, the desirable cards in those sets get unnaturally pumped up to incredibly high market values, making it not feasible for the average consumer to consider purchasing them for personal collections.

It sucks realizing that you’ve lost almost all of your interest in one of your main hobbies. I’ve collected Pokemon cards since 2021 but the insane levels of greed in the community has led to most of the new sets being nearly unobtainable.
