Americans are being sent to die in Iran by men who don’t even have the courage to say, “Uh, thank you, Mr. President, but I wear a size 9 shoe.”

I have an active duty Navy son whose sole comment, when Hegseth was nominated for SecDef, was a laconic "He's had work done."

Not meant as a compliment obvs

I can guarantee he has never heard of Jane's, and wouldn't be bothered to use it regardless. Not when he has such expert advisors around him!!!

Oh, for sure. I have my own theories but I'm not a pundit, just a fiction writer.

I would enjoy the prospect of them ripping each other apart if it didn't come with damage to so many people and institutions that aren't involved in the direct power struggle

Hitch your wagon to a star, Marco! What could possibly go wrong?

it's clearly Rubio's hope that this is the exact boost he gets from his sickening toadying to Dear Leader as well as his involvement in all the illegal wars and etc.

Pete Hegseth is the walking definition of fragile masculinity.

Here's my bottom line:

Much of what they are doing is bad.
Much of what they are doing is unpopular.
Pushback is working.
We are winning.
Keep fighting.
Be creative.
Push for what you'd want.
Allow for insiders and outsiders.
Realize that change takes time.
Reduce harm in the meantime.

Thanks. I think at the moment they are only using Libby.

I hadn't adjusted my glasses when I glanced at the first line!

Also, I was making a joke.

At first it looks as if it is going to snow in Hawaii, and it will (and storm, too), but (checks lower down) the snow forecast is for "Big Island Summits"

Whew.

Peeps, looking for advice! (You know you love giving advice).

A relative is buying an ereader and is leaning toward Kobo.

Kobo users, does it matter which Kobo ereader for Libby integration?

Said relative is eyeing the B&W 16gb

I read it long ago in what I am sure must have been an abridged edition, but my DIL recently read it and is absolutely determined that I MUST READ IT AGAIN only in the full version. Are you reading it in French? If in English, which translation?

I'm not a celebrity watcher but I do watch film and tv and I admit I am glad for the lovely celebrities who find happiness with a lovely partner in this difficult world.

lovely here as in "seem kind and smart" altho as actors they're always lovely in the other sense too

If you have 28 minutes today for a delightful staging of JS Bach's Coffee Cantata, a comic gem about a young woman who loves coffee (and perhaps other things as well), here it is:

It's more likely that if you pay $20 for a book then the author gets $2 or $2.50 (based on 10 - 15% royalties)
