I had mentioned a few weeks ago that fewer and less frequent balloon launches would likely result in degradation in model accuracy, but I wouldn't have expected such a drop-off from that alone.
The GFS model (American model; red line on graphic) accuracy has gone in the toilet. Truthfully, I do think a bit more time needs to pass before we can say with high confidence what is going on.
