I think students learning to conform to a style guide's idiosyncrasies is a valuable life skill. Just like essay writing isn't cuz the essay needs to be written, style guides aren't because we care about whether that should be a fullstop or a comma. They'll always be conforming to others briefs.

All content creation is retrospective, even if the creators don't recognise it.
