In the past few weeks, Bristol has seen a nine-year-old racially abused and shot with an air rifle in Brentry, a racist attack on two men in Lawrence Hill, and Islamophobic graffiti on a bus stop in Bedminster.
These attacks on members of Bristolโs communities are abhorrent and need to end. The cowardly actions of a small number of racists are leaving our neighbours anxious in their own city. Every one of the thugs behind these incidents needs to be brought to justice.
Bristol is, and always will be, a proud, diverse place where all our communities stand with each other. We will call out the appalling actions of the few in our city who seek to cause division and harm.
Racism will never be tolerated.

St Nickโs Market has been home to traders since 1743. It is a historic asset, a destination for tourists, and offers a vibrant array of independent shops.
During our conversations with traders, they have said the fee increases will put them out of business.
The councilโs own report states that, if these fee increases go ahead, โthe council risks higher vacancy levels at the market, leading to financial losses from reduction in licence fee revenue.โ
Labour councillors cannot support these outrageous fee increases in their current form. Clearly, it is time for the council to go back to the drawing board.
The council would be better off by exploring opportunities to expand the marketโs opening hours, in partnership with the independent traders that make the market what it is today.
๐ฃ The Green / Lib Dem administrationโs fee hike for St Nicks market is unaffordable for the traders. Time to go back to the drawing board

We're backing Bristol's Bus Drivers
First Group made ยฃ204.3m in profit last year. Shareholder dividends were up by 45%. Yet, bus drivers have been forced to take industrial action to get the pay rise they deserve.
The main sticking point in negotiations is First Groupโs refusal to back date their driversโ pay rise in full. Backdating it would cost around 0.15% of First Groupsโs yearly profits. Doing so is clearly affordable and reasonable.
Without our bus drivers, Bristol would grind to a halt.
These strikes are causing severe disruption to Bristolโs workers. Senior management need to get back to the negotiating table with Unite and give our bus drivers the wages they have earned.
๐ค Pay Bristolโs bus drivers what they deserve
