I also remember reading Adam Smith’s Theory of Moral Sentiments and Heather Love insisting it was Very Important for theories of affect but even I, a noted early modern political theory stan, found some of those arguments uncompelling

Yeah this is why I wouldn’t be so quick to buy the idea they don’t read any books as it’s much more likely they understand the books they’re reading are supposed to secret and “gnostic” as recently described.
