I’m currently about two-thirds of the way through The Hanging Tree in my Rivers of London chronological reread. There’s a lot of world building in this one again, and it’s reminded me of some useful stuff
Thanks for the link. The Eglington and Finch moquette looks good. I’d much rather have fabric than plastic, especially in hot weather. Sweaty wet plastic is just loooooovely to sit on
Mum and Hublet are both fast asleep on either side of me again. It’s very sweet.
The history of the London Underground’s moquettes (woven woollen seating fabrics) is actually pretty interesting. I wonder if Toronto’s is similar?
Bathrooms cleaned and the downstairs' hoovering done. Apologies to whichever spider built the huge gossamer web behind the sofa - you were making me look bad. Next time, build it at the other end where I can't get at it
Louise Fletcher was as magnificent as Kai Wynn was awful and, as you know, our TV was always in danger whenever Wynn appeared
The sun is shining and I have a lot of Mum’s housework to do. Geeing myself up to get on with it as opposed to bunking off and going for walk in the sunshine - especially as it’s due to pee it down this afternoon
Here's Abby from our demo team, running an intro game of the Rivers of London #TTRPG at @aireconuk.bsky.social in Harrogate 🇬🇧 this weekend!

We also discovered a dirty yoghurt pot stashed behind a picture by one of Mum’s carers at some point in the last few days (completely hardened but yet to grow anything). Mum doesn’t eat yoghurt, so we know it’s not hers. The bin was less than 6 feet away. /end
Not even at Mum’s for a couple of hours before the wheel’s came off re: ignored GP and hospital appointment letters. Looks like it’s finally time to activate the power of attorney, not to mention spending Monday sorting out the mess. /1
It’s been an on/off sort of week - periods of manic activity followed by quieter moments. Scenario sent of for review, more proofing done, the book into page numbering and hyperlinking, and lots of small tasks completed to move another project forward.
We’ve been watching the All Star Reading of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace on YouTube. No spoilers, but it is very funny and there are some brilliant interpretations of the roles. It’s long, so we’ll watch the second half later
Every shot of Holly Hunter standing next to Sandro Rosta in ST: Starfleet Academy looks like a forced perspective shot because she is so smol and he is so tol. It’s adorable
She was wonderful, wasn’t she?

I read Jane Eyre, and I remember watching the Timothy Dalton version of Wuthering Heights. Neither are pleasant stories. The Brontë sisters seemed to be big on abusive men

‘He’d never have wanted to go home. He was a real linesman. His name is in the code, in the wind in the rigging and the shutters. Haven’t you ever heard the saying “A man’s not dead while his name is still spoken”?’

It’s the 75th anniversary of a man in Dundee called David Law creating the “world’s wildest boy”, who lived in the pages of The Beano, and later that same year acquired a stripy jumper which he never again took off – and in 1968 got a dog as disciplined as its owner: Gnasher 🧵
It is scarily windy out there. The window vents & keyholes are whistling, the interior doors swaying. The water in the loo has waves. Drinks cans are hurtling down the front road & the telegraph wires are bouncing around like billy-o. Funnily enough, my little corvid friends are nowhere to be seen
Concerned by the non-appearance of the Rington’s Lad this morning, we checked the calendar. Apparently he should have been here last week but wasn’t. Rang Rington’s to make sure he’s okay as our original lad was always falling off his motorbike. Current lad was, thankfully, just on holiday
Leave the lichen alone, people
That’s Lt Frank Columbo, ma’am…
We’re currently playing Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Good so far, but we’ve reached a bit that’s making me feel queasy so I’m leaving Hublet to it
Scritch Scratch, the original short story behind the Call of Cthulhu scenario, is in this collection, and in some whoppingly illustrious company

Had an absolute brain fart this morning while making breakfast. Someone, I managed not to notice the open milk container and promptly broke the seal on the new one. Now we have two lots of open milk in the fridge. Nadgers
