Columbia is a far different place today than it was in the spring of 1968 when protesters took over University buildings amid discontent about the Vietnam War, racism and the University’s proposed expansion into Morningside Park. After a weeklong standoff, New York City Police stormed the campus and arrested more than 700 people. The fallout dogged Columbia for years.

It took decades for the University to recover from those turbulent times. Columbia now has one of the most socio-economically diverse student bodies among its peer institutions. It has added a new campus designed to be open to the community and pursues fields of inquiry unheard of a half-century ago. Columbia is commemorating the 50th anniversary of those long-ago events with a deep dive of scholarship and exhibits chronicling what happened then and its effects today.

Maybe Columbia should pull this page about they handled students protesting the Vietnam War, considering they haven’t learned shit.

This story in the Atlantic is the best public facing write up of how transformative these drugs are that I have ever seen. Most folks following me know that my 9yo has cystic fibrosis, and ,before these drugs, his pancreas didn’t work and he had cirrhosis

Now? He’s completely normal

Revisiting the Claudine Gay plagiarism accusations for a bonus episode and I cannot express how many of these are just totally normal paraphrases of basic facts.

What if I told you he’s right and white collar crimes are very rarely pursued because of our decisions about allocation of resources and our priorities driven by dishonest crime-on-the-streets narratives offered by a complicit media?

A NH voter on CNN just said he voted for Trump because Haley was too negative and that Trump “has left the language of vengeance behind.” Please tell me exactly how I’m supposed to start a rational conversation with someone who is experiencing an entirely separate reality. I’m all ears.

When The Rich Tell You Who They Are, Believe Them The capitalist who just told the world that capitalism requires hurting workers

Some people will tell you it's "too radical" or "too extreme" to say capitalism relies on hurting workers.

But what about when a millionaire CEO says it?

That's exactly what Tim Gurner said when he advocated for more unemployment and more economic pain.

Incidentally, Bluesky just passed 900,000 users. That's the population of Columbus, Ohio. Congratulations, Bluesky! You're all in Ohio now!

A murderer tries to stab me but with each thrust of his knife I block it with a sweet potato and after six stabs or so I gently place it in the oven at 400 degrees for 45 minutes

Just because Elon Musk condones, platforms, promotes, encourages, and endorses antisemitism and overt antisemites and engages in antisemitic tropes and is a hero to overt antisemites is no reason to . . . Ok I forget where I was going with this

Chief Miles Edward O'Brien, who could strangle you with a cordless phone if he wanted to, is pictured. Chief O'Brien, who can kill 2 stones with one bird, is facing the camera and winking. O'Brien, who can dribble a bowling ball, is on DS9 station and wearing his classic gold uniform, and has the energy of a man who is walking away from an explosion without looking backwards at it. Closed caption reads, "He was more than a hero. He was a union man."

a just released message from those trapped at Burning Man:

They have taken the bridge and the second hall. We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes. Drums...drums in the deep. We cannot get out. A shadow moves in the dark. We cannot get out. They are coming!

2 types of editor responses when submitting measurement work to clinical journals:

1) If editor > 95 years: “Desk-reject. This is well known, see my PhD from 1931.”
2) Else: “Desk-reject. Measurement has no clinical relevance and should be published in specialized measurement journals.”

Hey BlueSky!

I’m a clinical psych doctoral intern at Canandaigua VA. I study how stigma, meaning making systems, and relationships are interconnected and lead to suicide, especially among SGM youth and adults. I also look at how to improve access to and the effectiveness of therapy for SGMs!

drawing of a clock with ballpoint pen on printer paper - instead of digits each hour adds a dash to make that weird S people wrote everywhere in the 90s. 2 rows of 3 veritcal dashes, 2 diagonal dashes connecting them, then two dash each on top/bottom to give it pointy ends

hey guys check this out
