I've said this about writing and art -- the goal was not to replace writers and artists with AI, the result was either:

a) *threaten* to replace them with AI, and use that as leverage to be able to pay them less

b) replace them unsuccessfully and pay them less to fix the shit the AI barfed out

There is an actual life-changing conflict between WFH being cheaper and more efficient, an entire layer of middle managers who need to have meetings to feel alive, and the commercial real estate cabal that runs all cities. It’s going to get so fucking weird.

I think society isn't really honest about the contempt it has for the arts and those who choose a life in it. the trope of 'the suffering artist' isn't really made by artists, it's made by people who think artists should suffer and sometimes artists internalize it when they shouldn't

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:

why are rich people so damn boring? if I had all the money in the world I would create my very own animation studio, pay all my employees really well and have them animate my favourite fanfictions

I’ve been asked quite a lot over the years about how I remain calm when responding to trolls and bad actors. Some day I’ll do a bigger write up, but one of the biggest things that has helped me a lot is to remember:

“When you’re easily offended, you’re easily manipulated.”

the very first time we meet, i am a snake, and you don't love me back; the second time i am the woman of your dreams, so you do. the third time, well... it's a long and silly story called 'the hero in the serpent's skin' you can read in a week at shortbox comic fair

Cognitive scientists and AI researchers make a forceful call to reject “uncritical adoption" of AI in academia A new paper calls on academia to repel rampant AI in university departments and classrooms.

With students heading back to the classroom, a group of cognitive scientists and AI researchers has published one of the most forceful and evidence-backed calls yet to reject the "uncritical adoption of AI" in academia:

If you can mentally justify every gore story with descriptions of gruesomely murdering or ripping people apart because you understand that art about violence doesn’t cause people to enact violence, there is zero reason you can’t extend that logic to *ANY* kind of sex art

i really can't impress enough on young people that if you commit to not using AI you will be blessed by the promethean fire of knowledge and everyone around you will think you are a god for being able to do shit on your own and use your brain to have critical thoughts like a functional human being

'live action' adaptations of animation projects offends me. setting aside the cultural disrespect toward animation on a whole, it's a fundamental dismissal of animation as narrative -- the point of drawing is inherently allegorical and abstract. the metaphorical nature of animation IS the story
