Ha ha. Yes!

An RFP costs very little in comparison. Try telling a lawyer they are required to submit tens of thousands of dollars of free work in a competition with their peers so you can decide who to hire.

It also dismisses the 90% of architecture that isn’t creative conceptual design.

Suddenly everyone cares about kids walking to school.

In the 1970’s, 80% of Canadian children walked to school. Today 80% are driven to school.

I don’t think the problem is daylight.

Imagine asking any other professional to submit free work in a competition to try and get a contract.

So much pressure on himself. Every move scrutinized. Those interviews break my heart. I hope he does well. That’s quite the set of pairings.

Opinion: Right turns on red β€” it’s time for a change Over the past two years in Winnipeg, 25 pedestrians or cyclists have been killed in vehicle collisions.

My column today: If we want neighbourhoods to be walkable and vibrant, people need to feel safe walking and biking. The 1970’s law allowing right turns on red lights prioritizes vehicles over safety. Many cities are now considering banning it in urban areas. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/anal...

I am certain that right turn on red is the most likely policy that will kill me or a family member. I see drivers daily failing to even pause before blowing the red light on a turn, but also drivers failing to yield to a pedestrian with signal because they don’t even know that the light has changed.

While the rest of Canada is cheering on our Olympic hockey team, I'm coaching a youth hockey team inΒ a frozen barn at the crack of dawn at a tournament in rural Manitoba. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

It’s funny to me that every single sport in the Winter Olympics is some version of sliding on frozen water.

The hockey arena at the Milan Olympics has been controversial, and it might be in 2030 as well. The plan is to divide the soccer stadium in Nice, France with a wall built down the middle of the field to create two 15,000 seat temporary arenas. The roof will also be filled in.

The Olympic curling arena is amazing. An outdoor wooden structure built as the main arena for the 1956 Olympics. A roof was built to cover the rink in the 1980’s but it remained open air. For these games, it’s been completely enclosed with a new structure fit into the old.

An A&W operated on the site of the first restaurant in Winnipeg until 2015. The original was replaced by one of the odd post-modern style buildings in the 90’s. There is ironically now a Wendy’s on the site. A new A&W opened a block away.

My column today: City of Winnipeg increased housing construction last year by twice the national average. The result of dedicated policy and culture change at City Hall. Reevaluating our Parking and Density policies could help keep the momentum going. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/anal...

Interesting. According to the City’s information, it’s typically about 75/25.

It’s going to be really exciting to watch the buildings of Railside start to rise out of the parking lots at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg. Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect in the first phase of buildings, and a plan showing where they’ll be located. 1/3

Minneapolis has always felt like a sister city to Winnipeg. It’s our weekend getaway for concerts, baseball games, shopping. We might not like their hockey team, but the people of Minnesota are in our thoughts through this troubling time.
