Request Solarpunk at the Library I’m a huge fan of distributed action: a lot of people doing a thing in a lot of places can have huge impact, even if each action seems small.

Ok friends...if you want more people to know about #solarpunk, I've got a thing you can do: request solarpunk books at the library.

This page has details: HOW, WHY, 10 Solarpunk Books Every Library Should Have

A satirical pop art piece styled like an IKEA instruction manual. The title reads “MK-84 BÖMB - Proudly supplying non-lethal bits.” Below it, a cartoon character resembling Penny Wong wears a blue IKEA-style uniform, smiling and holding a tiny hammer and instruction sheet. A large speech bubble says, “Just parts. Nothing lethal in nature. Parts!! :)” Below, an exploded diagram of a bomb is shown, with each part labeled “non-lethal”,including the guidance fins, bomb body, laser detector, and wing assembly. A sarcastic disclaimer reads: “Outcomes may vary - and are absolutely not our responsibility. All refund requests will be honoured with one (1) Deep Concern™.” The overall tone mimics cheerful retail branding to expose the absurdity of justifying war crimes through technicalities.

It's not just that the current crop of statements expressing horror and condemnation come so late, and so bereft of any kind of reparation for the harm done, but because it goes no further than token rhetoric. On the weekend, Israel illegally boarded a civilian humanitarian ship that was bringing aid to Gaza, kidnapping the crew aboard, including two Australian citizens, Tan Safi and Robert Martin. Australia's PM Anthony Albanese was doing press at the same time, using his strongest rhetoric to date about how "indefensible" Israel's actions are, how "heartbreaking" these images of starved kids are, while simultaneously continuing to express support for Israel.

He said nothing about the two Australians who have been kidnapped.

He said nothing about the fact that his government continues to supply Israel with critical jet parts, weapon parts, and weapons. Even putting that aside, where are the sanctions? The expulsion of Israeli ambassadors? The suspension of arms shipments? The closure of embassies? There is nothing, because this outrage is not genuine. It is theatre designed to gaslight the public into thinking they care. There is no truth to it.

What blows my mind is the candid disclosure of Israel bombing densely populated areas for more than 14 hours a day until now.

Just in case you missed this, this was the first week back in Parliament. It’s revealing to see what motivates @albomp.bsky.social’s government to act. The PM has released yet another statement today about Israel, but again no actual sanctions.

The last panel was harrowing to draw. #auspol

Ken Henry wants Australia's media to do a better job Ken Henry, a former treasury secretary, says the media has to hold Australia's political system accountable for its policy failures

If the media were better they wouldn’t be saying “your plan is great Ken”.
They’d be asking if “nature positive” actually means anything. And have offsets worked literally anywhere? And why try to privatise conservation efforts rather than simply funding them?
And what are your interests, Ken?

The next panel has this person putting a stick through their own spikes and a caption reading “do interview with canberra times about shoes”. The third panel has the person on the ground, clutching their leg and asking “why are they talking about my shoes?!?”

Public education is public health.

"Public education has many virtues, the chief one being providing the tools of learning at no cost to families. But another of its traits is the way it breaks down homogeny, forcing children to be in a community with others unlike them."

My heart is hurting for the Torres Strait and the community who brought the historic legal challenge on climate grounds to the Albanese’s government and lost today. They say they are steadfast in their fight for Country and Culture. If only Albanese had an ounce of their courage.

There are so many desperate hungry people in Gaza right now I know it's overwhelming but understand that nobody can do everything but everyone can do something

If you're overwhelmed and feel powerless / helpless please consider finding one ( 1 ) family in Gaza to adopt and try to help

I hope the Lattouf decision gives other board members decision makers around the country serious pause in the future.
Political opinions are still legal in this country. Facts and criticism about horrific human rights violations should be supported, not punished.
