Quite apart from there being a lot more to college than lectures and "merely keeping the terms" to paraphrase Austen, force-feeding students the lectures in half the time leaves them no time to think and consider one chunk of learning before they move on to the next which is a very serious detriment

Good points, but most universities try to timetable less on Friday already-the structures are there for campus socialising already, but so many students commute long distances they can’t participate.The Gov should be looking to build more student housing in-situ rather than composing their commutes
